eenwood, SC (June 3, 2012)- The HJGT traveled to Greenwood, SC for the first time this weekend to host the Greenwood Jr. Challenge from beautiful Greenwood Country Club. This tournament featured players ranked highly on both the HJGT and SCJGA points standings. Each age division saw fierce competition and outstanding performances. Composing the field were 75 of the southeast’s strongest golfers, coming from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. Both days provided fantastic weather for golf with the sun shining all weekend. The Boys 15-18 Division, after a 3 way tie to start the day, was won by Wick Andrews of Columbia, SC behind a 2 day total of a 3 under par 141(72+69) . Andrews birdied 3 out of his last 4 holes to win by one stroke. Andrews had the only eagle in his field and also led in birdies(11), par breakers(33.3%), and par 3 performance(3.00) and par 5 performance(4.00). Keenan Huskey of Greenville, SC finished second with a 2 day total of 142(74+68), 2 under par. Huskey used a 68, the best round of the tournament in any age division, to put pressure on Andrews down the stretch. Within Huskey’s round were five birdies and only one bogey. Huskey lead the field in pars or better(86.1%), finished second in birdies(8), and played the par 5’s at an under par average this weekend(4.50). In a tie for third, Bryson Nimmer from Bluffton, SC (72+74) and Cole Patterson from Greenville, SC (72+74) each carded a 2 over par 146 total. Nimmer had the most pars in the field (27) and tied for most pars or better (86.1%), while Patterson played the par 4’s to a perfect 4.00 average and was second in most pars (24) and pars or better (80.6%).  The first place trophy in the Girls 15-18 Division went to Victoria Huskey of Greenville, SC with a 2 day total of 153 (76+77), a 9 over par. Huskey used a strong start Saturday to remain the leader. Huskey shot the 2 best rounds in her division and used a stretch of pars to hold on to first. She led the field in pars (24), pars or better (72.2%), and par 4 performance (4.15). Maddy Cox from Easley, SC took second with a 14 over par total of 158(78+80). Cox led the field in par 3 performance (3.25) and par 5 performance (5.25) over the weekend. Taking home third was Morgan Cox of Easley, SC, shooting a 168(84+84), finishing at 24 over par. Cox ended strong, recording birdies on her last two holes. She also led the field in birdies (3), and most par breakers (8.3%). The Boys 11-14 Division was another tightly contested division that eventually was won by Christian Salzer of Sumter, SC while carding a 1 over par total of 145(71+74) this weekend. Salzer’s first round 71 gave him a 3 shot lead coming into today. Salzer lead the field in birdies (7), par breakers (19.4%), most pars or better (80.6%) and par 3 performance (3.00) and 4 performance (4.15). Taking second was States Fort of Evans, GA who posted a total of 147(74+73), finishing at 3 over par. Fort had the divisions only eagle and also lead in par 5 performance (4.50), playing them at an under par average. Finishing third was Rex Carter of Greenville, SC who shot a 151(75+76) this weekend, ending at 7 over par. Carter lead the field in pars (26); posting 13 in the final round, and also played the par 5’s under par this weekend (4.75). The Girls 11-14 Division saw a back to back winner in Courtney Vogel from Greer, SC who finished at 21 over par, carding a 165 total (83+82).Vogel used consistent play in both rounds and an early lead to seal the victory. Vogel lead the field in birdies (4), par breakers (11.1%), pars or better (50.0%), and par 3 performance (3.12). Abigail Bolt of Woodstock, GA took second behind a 168(87+81), finishing 24 over par. Bolt posted the low round in this division with her final round 81. She also lead the field in most pars (17) and par 4 performance (4.90) over the weekend. Taking home third was Layne-Marie Carter of Lyons, GA who finished at 30 over par, shooting a 174(88+86). Carter was second in pars (15) and par 3 performance (3.25).
