Greenville Jr. Shootout - Recap Feb. 20-21

Willow Creek GC – Greer, S.C.

Feb. 20 - 21

What a Week at Willow Creek

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Willow Creek Golf Club in Greer, S.C. for the Greenville Junior Shootout. Designed by noted course architect Tom Jackson, Willow Creek presented challenges far and wide to our players. The course was long, windy and hilly and tested the juniors’ games. The HJGT would like to thank the staff at Willow Creek for aiding us in hosting a great event. Top-three finishers from this weekend received invitations to our Mid Season Invitational at Chateau Elan on June 11-13 and winners received invitations to the 2016 Tour Championship on Dec. 3-4.

Bridgeman shot the only subpar total of the tournament, finishing at one-under. Reynolds, from Greenville, S.C., came in second at 149, however his 69 in round one was the low round of the tournament. Thomas Hollingsworth

Thomas Hollingsworth[/caption] The Boys 14-15 division crown was a one-headed race almost all the way. Thomas Hollingsworth of nearby Spartanburg, S.C., shot an impressive two-under 70 in round one to seize the lead. Six bogeys surrendered in round two allowed competitors to temporarily stay within sight. Zachery Lawter, out of Inman, S.C., was the next closest competitor. Three birdies on the back nine helped him secure second place and a two-day total of 159 (+15). Nick Mayfield from Rock Hill, S.C. did as much as he could to stay within striking distance, but could only keep his eye on second. Two double bogeys down the stretch lead to his demise, but he played well during the entire tournament, posting a total of 160 (+16) to take third place out of nine in the division.

The trio trailed leader and eventual third-place finisher, Rachel Kuehn of Ashville, N.C. A solid 75 (+3) in day two lead Zhu to the win after Kuehn could not duplicate her first round of 73, posting an 84 in round two. Three birdies and 25 pars assisted Zhu in outpacing her competitors to the finish line en route to an eight-over-par total of 152, two clear of Wrigley.
