Jekyll Island, GA (April 15, 2012) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour continued its 2012 season with another great outing this past weekend at the Major Championship at Jekyll Island. This weekend’s event was played at The Jekyll Island Golf Course – Pine Lakes. With a field size of over 100 junior golfers. Players ranged all the way from Canada to Mexico with representatives from South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Canada, and Mexico. It was a beautiful weekend for golf with temperatures in the mid 70’s and minimal cloud cover both days. The Jekyll Island Golf Coursestaff was once again great and helpful hosts so a special thank you goes to them. In the boys 15-18 division Jeremy Grab from Daniel Island, SC was the winner with a very impressive two day total of 141 (74+67). Grab’s 67 was a tournament low and was the major reason he was able to overcome a four stroke day one deficit. Grab also had the best par 4 average (3.90), the second most birdies (8), and the best par or better percentage (86.1%). Finishing in second place was Gonzalo Martinez from Mexico City, MEX with a two day total of 143 (72+71). Martinez had the 3rd best par 5 average (4.62), the fourth most pars (25) and the third best par 4 average (3.95). There was a three way tie for third place between JJ Gumbergfrom Ft. Lauderdale, FL(75+71), Jordan Batchelor from St. Johns, FL (74+72), and Eric Burns out of Canton, GA(70+76).Each golfer posted a two day total of 146 and each golfer also received a trophy for their efforts. Gumberg had the third most pars (7), Batchelor had the best par 5 average (4.62), and Burns had two impressive eagles during round one. The girls 15-18 division played very competitively with Josee Doyon from Canada taking home the first place trophy with a two day total of 146 (73+73). Doyon led her division with the best par 3 average (3.00), the most pars (28), and the most pars or better percentage (86.1%). Coming in second place, also from Canada, was Valerie Tanguay who posted a two day total of 148 (73+75). Tanguay had the third most birdies (5), the second best par 3 average (3.12), and the second best par 4 average (4.15). Coming in third was Teresa Casasus from Myrtle Beach, SC. Casasus led her division with seven birdies and also had the best par 5 average (4.88). In the boys 11-14 division Zak Butt from Summerville, SC  finished first by two strokes with a two day total of 144 (72+72). Butt led his division with the best par 3 average (3.00), the best par 4 average (4.00), and also had the most pars (28). The second place finisher was Jack Baker from Jacksonville, FL. Baker posted a two day score of 146 (71+75), only two strokes off the lead. Baker had the division’s most birdies (6), the most par breakers (16.7%), and the second best par 5 average (4.75). Coming in third place was Hunter Dunagan from Martinez, GA. Dunagan was only one stroke behind Baker finishing at 147 (73+74). Dunagan was also tied for the second most birdies (5) and had the second best par breaker percentage (13.9%). In the girls 11-14 division Hannah Berman from Jacksonville, FL was the winner. Berman posted a two day total of 151 (75+76) which was good enough to win by 6 strokes. Berman also had the most birdies (6), the best par 4 average (4.35), and the best par 5 average (4.88). The second place finisher was JuliannaCollett from St. Simon’s Island, GA who scored a two day total of 157 (79+78). Colletthad the second most pars (18) as well as the second most birdies (30). Coming in third was Ragan Bailey from Waynesboro, GA.
