First Coast Junior Open July 22-23

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour made a short trip down the road in Jacksonville, FL at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club on July 22-23for the 1st Coast Junior Open. The golfers were in great spirits and excited to be able to play such a beautiful and exclusive course. Champions in the older boys and older girls divisions received AJGA Performance Stars. Winners in both boys divisions and the Girls 15-18 division received a Florida Golf Tour exemption. All winners also received an invitation to the HJGT’s 2013 Tour Championship and top ten finishers received points towards the Hurricane Cup and end of year honors. Those honors include All-HJGT teams and state teams.

1st coast b 15-18

In the boys 15-18 division, U-Minn Woon of Jacksonville, FL used a second round 74 to win the tournament by one stroke with a total of 146 (+2). Woon was most impressive on the front nine on Monday as he shot a two under 34. In second place there was a tie between Eric Havixbeck of Jacksonville, FL and Zach Evans of Jacksonville, Fl.  Both finished with a total score of 147 (+1). Evans had an impressive 8 birdies over the two rounds and Havixbeck finished with 7. Evans took home the EFX Birdie Challenge Bracelet with his 10 birdies. Ryan Johnston of St. Simons Island, GA took home Golf Pride Comeback Player of the Week honors with a 18 shot improvement.

1st coast g 15-18

Kathleen Duperval of Jacksonville, FL won the Girls 15-18 Division by five strokes with a 152 (+8) total. Duperval trailed by one shot after the first round but shot a 1-over 73 to clinch the victory. Duperval also had the most birdies in the division with four. Marah Penn of Hamburg, NY came in second with a total of 157 (+13). Hannah Berman, of Jacksonville, FL led after day one, but couldn’t hold on as she shot 80 on the final day and finished third for the division with a total of 158 (+14). Dupervl took home the EFX Birdie Challenge Bracelet with four birdies. Emily Root of, Jacksonville, FL took home Golf Pride grips after an eleven stroke difference from Monday to Tuesday.

1st coast b 11-14

The Boys 11-14 Division saw Cody Carrol of Jacksonville, FL win with rounds of 73 and 75 for a 148 (+4) total. Carrol had 7 birdies over the two rounds which was the best for the division. In second place there was a tie between George Eubank Jr. of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Sam Ohno of Ponter Vedra Beach, FL. Both shot 151 (+1) total.  Eubank had to low round of the day with a 70 (-2) on Tuesday to earn the second place finish. Carrol won the EFX Birdie Challenge with seven birdies. Alex Whitehead of, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL won the Golf Pride Comeback Player of the Week with an thirteen stroke improvement.

1st coast g 11-14

In the Girls 11-14 Division, Amelia Root of Jacksonville, FL took first place with a total of 155 (+11). Snyder’s rounds of 81 and 74 were good enough for a one shot victory. Root finished the tournament with four birdie and was one stroke back coming into Monday. In second place was Jacksonville, FL’s Harlie Valinho who shot a total of 156 (+12) over the two days. In third place in the division was Sophie Guo of Bluffton, SC. Moore shot rounds of 84 and 78 for a 162 (+18) total. Root won the EFX Birdie Challenge with four. Harlie Valinho won the Golf Pride Comeback Player of the Week after a 12 stroke difference. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and Ohio.
