Kim Dominates the Weekend by Force

CELEBRATION, Florida (January 22, 2012) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour continued its 5th season this weekend at Mystic Dunes Golf Course. Mystic Dunes hosted the Orlando Jr. Challenge. The weather was ideal for a great tournament weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday saw warm temperatures. Saturday came with wind gusts that did affect player performance specifically on the longer holes. However, Sunday turned out to be a perfect day for golf with temperatures reaching upwards to almost 80 degrees. Mystic Dunes Golf Course was primed and ready this weekend to host the Orlando Junior Challenge. Both the club professional and the staff of Mystic Dunes proved to be a valuable asset in assisting the HJGT staff to run a successful tournament. A more than stellar performance was shown by winner Scott Eum of Korea this weekend in the Boys 15-18 Division. Eum posted a score of + 4 (70+76=146). Saturday was dominated by Eum who posted a total of 7 birdies in the first round. Eum came into hole two at even par after playing the back nine. When Eum teed off on two he was at even par after sinking three birdies on the previous holes. Eum continued his streak by also making a birdie on two to give him a boost above the rest of the field on Saturday. Eum also led the field in Most Par Breakers with a percentage of 30.6. The winner of the tournament was decided by a one hole playoff between Scott Eum and Timothy Colanta. Eum took the win by parring on the hole. Eum posted a total of 11 birdies throughout the tournament which proved to help him come out on top. Coming in at second in this division was Timothy Colanta of Champions Gate, Fl. Colanta posted a total score of + 4 (77+69=146). Colanta was on the trail all the way to the end of the second round when Eum won the playoff hole. Timothy had the most pars out of the division with a total of 24. Colanta also had a percentage of 77.8 with having the most pars or better. Finishing third in the division was Caleb Sibley of Kissimmee, Fl. Sibley posted a total score of + 7 (73+76=149). Sibley also finished second in par 3 average with a 2.88. Sibley also had five birdies throughout the weekend. The Girls 15-18 Division saw total domination by Amanda Kim of South Korea. Kim posted a total of +2 (71+71=142). Kim led the field beginning Saturday where she posted a total of 7 birdies in the first round. Sunday, Kim posted another impressive total of 5 birdies to give her a total of 12 birdies for the weekend. On top of achieving the most birdies, Kim also placed first in the best Par 3, 4, & 5 performances. Lauren Coe of Tarpon Springs, Fl, placed second in the division. Coe posted a total score of + 19 (78+81=159). Lauren finished second with the best Par 4 performance with an average of 4.35. Coming in at third place was Millie Hill of Sorrento, Fl. Sorrento posted a total score of + 23 (84+79= 163). Millie saw difficult play on a very tough course but was able to manage one birdie throughout both rounds which gave her an advantage over other competitors in the field. The Boys 11-14 Division saw relatively close play throughout the entire tournament. Parker Manson of Winter Springs, Fl took first place with a total of +8 (76+74=150). Manson managed to improve his score by two strokes on Sunday with birdies coming consecutively on holes 17 and 18. Parker also finished first in having the most pars throughout the tournament with a total of 23. Coming in right behind Manson to take second place was Michael Mattiace of Jacksonville, Fl. Mattiace posted an impressive score on Sunday with a 74. However, the Saturday score was 80 which brought his total score for the weekend at +12. Even through his struggles Mattiace managed to come out on top in the Best Par 3 Performance with an average score of 3.00. Third place was taken by Patrick Mills of Tampa, Fl. Mills was close on the trail to take second place posting a total score of + 13 (81+74=155). Mills also had an impressive performance having a total of 5 birdies and 18 pars to finish the weekend. Close competition was present all weekend through the final round in the Girls 11-14 division. First place was taken by Paige Garris of West Palm Beach, Fl. Garris posted a total score of (90+82=172). On Sunday, Garris saw a dramatic improvement to lower her score by eight strokes which proved to be a determining factor in her taking the first place. This division also saw the possibility of a playoff hole between the top contenders. Second place was taken by Ashley Mangan of Clermont, Fl. Mangan also improved her score on Sunday by taking off 5 strokes from her previous score on Saturday. Mangan posted a total score of + 33 (95+80=175). Mangan also took the best Par 4 Average in her division with an average of 5.00. Coming in at third was young Mimi Chen of Longwood, Fl. Mimi saw a difficult weekend by Mystic Dunes because of the physicality and toughness of the course. However this did not stop her from playing her best. Chen posted a total score of (91+86=177). Chen was very close to taking second place behind Ashley Mangan. Chen had a very impressive performance with a total of 14 pars for the tournament.
