Dunagan Wins Two in a Row; Wang's Consistency Pays off

Dunagan goes back to back

Wang holds on

Lake Mary, Florida (March 11, 2012) The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was in Lake Mary, FL this past weekend for the first major championship of the year.  The event was held at Magnolia Plantation Golf Club for all the younger divisions. Players traveled from all around to compete this weekend to create a very diverse field. States and countries such as Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Massachusetts, and Canada were all represented. The weather played a huge factor this weekend and rain was a constant throughout both rounds. Heavy rain forced a twenty minute delay on Saturday while Sunday brought on a few showers and some strong winds. The HJGT would like to send a special thanks to the Magnolia Plantation Golf Club for their support and assistance throughout the tournament. The boys 11-14 division played very competitively this weekend. Hunter Dunagan (Martinez, GA) followed up his performance last weekend at Mirror Lake with another impressive victory.  Dunagan finished with a two day total of 153 (76+77). Dunagan was also able to have the best par 4 performance (4.30) as well as having the second most total birdies with 4. Dunagan was two shots off the lead heading into Sunday and was able to hold on by posting 12 pars or better on Sunday. Finishing one shot off the lead was Anton Serafini (Lake Mary, FL). Serafini started the second round four shots behind the leaders but was able to post a very impressive 74, after an opening round 80, to cut the lead down to one. Serafini was also able to post the second best par 5 performance (5.00) as well as the second best par or better percentage (72.2).  One of the main reasons for Serafini’s success was his last nine holes in which he was able to stay out of trouble and score par on each one. There was a tie for third place between Ryan Hicks (Clearwater, FL) and Alejandro Lopez (Howey in the Hills, FL). Both players finished with a two day total of 156. Hicks (79+77) had the second best par 4 performance (4.35) and finished with the third most pars or better with 23. Whereas Lopez (76+80) finished with the most pars or better at 27 and the best par 3 performance (2.88). In the girls 11-14 division QiQi Wang (Howey in the Hills, FL) took home the first place trophy. Wang (87+84=171) played extremely well on the front 9 both days scoring 13 pars or better. This led to Wang having the most pars or better in her division with 18. Wang also had the best par 4 performance (4.70) to go along with a respectable par 3 performance (3.50). Finishing three shots behind Wang was Hannah Berman (Jacksonville, FL). Berman (90+84=174) was tied with Wang in par 3 performance (3.50) to go along with 17 total pars. Berman also had a par or better percentage of 47.2.  Berman played very consistently scoring a 42 on both the front and back nine on day two. Ella Woods (Saint Augustine, FL) finished in third place with a two day total of 176 (87+89). Woods had the second most birdies with two and the second best par 5 performance (5.88). Woods was also able to birdie hole 12, a very challenging par 5, on day two. For more information about this tournament visit the HJGT fan page on Facebook.com.
