Adruzova Takes First Win in HJGT Event

Wellington, Florida (February 12, 2012) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour was in Wellington, FL this weekend for the Palm Beach Jr. Challenge. The tournament was held at Binks Forest Golf Course. This event marked the first time that the HJGT hosted a tournament at the course. Weather on both days of the tournament proved to be a great challenge for players to overcome. Saturday was filled with grey skies, 20 mph winds, and scattered showers. Sunday turned out to be sunny but with temperatures on reaching highs in the 50’s accompanied with strong wind gusts. The Palm Beach Jr. Challenge turned out to be a great event in which players were able to showcase their efforts in order to win. A four hole playoff decided the fate of who would win in the Boys 15-18 Division. The playoff was between Richard Donegan of Okeechobee, FL, and Jordan Batchelor of St. John, Fl. Donegan and Batchelor finished the final round on Sunday at +9. The winner would have to be decided by a playoff hole. Both players parred hole number four. On the fourth playoff hole the winner was finally determined. Batchelor doubled the hole while Donegan finished with a bogey. Both of the players posted impressive scores throughout the weekend. Donegan finished the weekend with a two day total score of +9 (73+80=153). Donegan finished the weekend with a total of four birdies with three of them coming in the first round. Batchelor posted a two day total score of +9 (79+74=153). Batchelor took home second place, along with the most pars or better with a total of 24. Third place was taken by Davis Roche of Jacksonville, Fl. Roche posted a two day total score of +11 (79+76=155). This weekend proved to be a monumental win for Anastasia Adruzova of Russia in the Girls 15-18 Division. This was Adruzova’s first time playing in an HJGT event along with her first win. Adruzova posted a two day total score of 167 (83+84). Adruzova led the field in multiple categories including Best Par 3 Performance (3.00), Best Par 4 Performance (4.75), Most Pars (18), and the Most Pars with a total of 18. There was a tie for second place between Taylor Moody of Plantation, FL, and Ekaterina Protasova of Russia. Moody posted a two day total score of 177 (85+92). She also placed second in the Best Par 4 Performance with an average of 4.95. Protasova posted a two day total score of 177 (88+89). This was also Protasova’s first competition in an HJGT event. Protasova placed second in the Best Par 3 Performance category with an average of 3.38. In the Boys 11-14 Division, Andrew Kozan of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, rose above the rest of the field to take first place. Kozan posted a two day total score of 161 (80+81). Kozan had the most birdies in the division with a total of three. Kozan also had the Best Par 4 Performance with an average of 4.45. Michael Mattiace of Jacksonville, FL, took second place posting a two day total score of 166 (89+77). Mattiace had the most pars with a total of 19. Jake Ludwick of St. Augustine, FL, finished third with a two day total score of 167 (82+85). Ludwick had the Best Par 3 Performance average (3.38) and the Best Par 5 Performance average (5.25). The Girls 11-14 Division saw challenging play this weekend. Paige Lee Garris of West Palm Beach, FL, took first place with a total of 172 (85+87). Garris led the field the entire weekend to help carry her to her first place win. Abby Burditt of St. Augustine, FL, placed second with a two day total score of 177 (89+88). Burditt placed first in both the Par 5 Performance category (5.88), and the Par 3 Performance category with an average of 3.38. Jasmine Ferguson of Lakeworth, FL, placed third in the division.
