The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Orlando, FL for the Disney Junior Classic held at the Disney World Resort – Palm Course. The 1st place winner in each age division received an invitation to the HJGT National Championship. AJGA points were on the line as the winner in each division earned four performance stars to the AJGA. The top ten finishers in each division received points towards year-end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup.
Harry Brenner of Boca Raton went wire-to-wire Saturday and Sunday at Disney to take the two-stroke victory over Dylan Lai of China in the Boys 15-18 division. Brenner, who shot a two-day total of 148 carried a first round 72 into the second round and fought off a challenging Lai who shot a day two low of 73 to attaint the victory. This is Brenner’s second victory this season and moves him into the top five in the player of the year rankings.
One tournament, one win. Guogen Lan of China gathered his first victory of the season with a two-day total of 152 shooting dual 76’s both days. He won the Boys 13-14 division by two strokes over fellow competitor Ethan Werblo and Matthew Soucinek by three strokes. He used a strong opening nine 36 on the second day to separate himself from the field. He gains four AJGA performance stars for the win.
Ziyi Pan also of China won the two person, Boys 11-12 field by fourteen strokes over Diego Alejandro Neira Aponte of Caracas, Venezuela. Pan shot a two-day total of 175 shooting an 84 on the first day and 91 on the second. This is his first victory this season on the Hurricane Junior Tour.
Briana Fitzpatrick of Port St. Lucie, FL shot dual 80’s both days to attain the Girls 11-14 division championship by seven over Sarah Scott of Oviedo, FL. She shot a two-day total of 160 while Scott shot 167. This is Fitzpatrick’s second consecutive victory this season on the Hurricane Junior Tour and moves her into the top 20 on the player of the year list.
The Girls 15-18 division had the closest race of the tournament. Chelsea Liu of Howey in the Hills, FL shot a two-day total of 149 to win by one over Bianca M. Cruz of Lake Mary, FL. Liu was tied for the lead with Cruz after the first day with an opening round 76 but used an amazing 73 on the final day to push herself to victory. This is Liu’s first victory this season and earns her four AJGA performance stars. Congratulations to everyone and thank you!
