Detroit Jr. Open Sept. 26-27

Auburn Hills, Michigan: (September 20th, 2015). The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held its second ever tournament in Michigan this week at Fieldstone Golf Club in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The course was a real challenge for all the players. The weather was great on Saturday and Sunday, giving the young players prime scoring conditions. We would like to thank Fieldstone Golf Club and their staff for hosting the tournament. The winners in each division received an invitation to the 2015 Hurricane Junior Golf Tour National Championship. Additionally, the top ten finishers in each division received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.

Boys 15-18 Logan Price of Grand Blanc, Michigan fired a first round even par 72 to head into Sunday with a 6 shot lead and never looked back. He used 6 birdies, including a streak of 3 in a row on the front nine Saturday. On Sunday Price cruised to a four over par 76  and won the tournament by a full eight shots. He took full advantage of the par 5s during the tournament birdieing 4 par fives and not getting worse than par on any par 5.  There was a three way tie for second place as Ross Lazar, Piyachad Yusabai, and Connor Lenhart all shot a two round total of 156. Lazar of Okemos, Michigan turned his tournament around Sunday jumping up the leaderboard by bettering his first round score by 6 shots. Logan Price led the field in par 3 and par 5 scoring as he was under par in both categories. Connor Lenhart and Piyachad Yusabai led par 4 scoring with an average of 4.3 for the tournament.

Boys 13-14 The boys 13-14 division was a much closer contest with Coalter Smith of Grosse Pointe, Michigan and Cameron Cowland from Dexter Michigan went into Sunday’s final round with a one stroke difference between the two. Smith had a four shot lead through five holes, but Cameron Cowland came roaring back with an impressive back nine 34 that included three birdies on three of the courses difficult par fours. Unfortunately for Cowland the back nine two under par score was not quite enough as Coalter Smith also played well and shot a final round 73 to Cowlands 74 and won the tournament by two shots. Cowland led the field in birdies with 5 and Smith led the field in par 4 scoring with a perfect 4.0 average.    

julia mcalindon g 15-18 detroit jr. open

Girls 15-18 Julia McAlindon all the way from Auburn, Alabama took home the girls 15-18 tournament at Fieldstone GC. She beat Katie Boyd by one shot to take home the trophy. McAlindon used a birdie on the par 4 16th hole on Sunday to get her lead back after giving it way to Boyd and was able to finish the job. They were separated by one stroke heading into Sunday and both shot final round 96s to give McAlindon the win. McAlindon led the field in birdies with 2 for the tournament and Boyd led par 5 scoring with a 5.9 average on the courses par 5s.   

sydney leyrele g 11-14 detroit jr. open

Girls 11-14 Sydney Leyerle used back to back rounds of 88 to win the Detroit Junior Open in the girls 11-14 year old divison. Leyerle took a ten shot lead into Sunday and was able to stretch out her lead in the final round to win the tournament by 15 shots. Sydney Leyerle led the field with 2 birdies in the tournament and Wynne Aldrich led the field in back 9 scoring averaging a 45.5.
