A round of 71 secures Milanowski's victory
Skinners wins third HJGT Tournament
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Athens, Georgia for the College Prep Series at UGA on November 2-3. This National Junior Golf Scoreboard ranked event took place at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The college prep series plays a pivotal role in preparing junior golfers for success at the collegiate level. The champion in both the boys and girls 15-18 division earned 4 AJGA Performance Stars, as well as the boys 15-18 top 5 who earned 1 AJGA star. Winners in all four divisions received an automatic bid into the 2013 Tour Championship. Players who placed highly received South Carolina Junior Golf Association Heritage Points, Tarheel Youth Golf Association Points, and year-end honors, which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.
In the boys 15-18 division, Jake Milanowski of Peachtree City, GA entered into the final round with a 1-stroke lead after shooting a round of 71, which was tied for the lowest at the event. Milanowski was able to maintain his lead by shooting a round of 73 on the Sunday to secure the win. Both Milanowski and Matt Hines of Woodstock, GA would share the title of the EFX Birdie Challenge by totaling eight birdies for the weekend. Hines and Zach Zediker of Gray, GA finished tied for second after they both shot rounds of 72 and 75. Sebastian Darmo of Roswell, GA and Caleb Proveaux of Lexington, SC also finished tied for second place creating a four-way tie. Darmo who shot a first round score of 76, improved on his score by shooting a round of 71, which was the lowest of the day. Proveaux was able to secure his spot for second place after shooting rounds of 73 and 74.
Isabella Skinner of Cumming, GA after shooting rounds of 79 and 74 was able to maintain her first round lead to win 1st place in the Girls 15-18 division. Skinner also was in a three-way tie for the EFX Birdie Challenge with Harmanprit Kaur and Candler Kimsey with four birdies each. Skinner also added 21 pars and a field best performance on par four holes. Hamanprit Kaur of Lawrenceville, GA finished in second place after shooting rounds of 80 and 76. Diane Lim of Norcross, GA finished in third place after shooting rounds of 81 and 77. She posted a 4.3 scoring average on par four holes.
Entering the final round on Sunday, Daniel Fienemann of Peachtree, GA and Jun Lee of Duluth, GA were tied atop the leader board both finishing the first round with scores of 76. Finenemann was able to win the championship for the Boys 11-14 division after scoring a round of 74. Finenemann also clinched the title of EFX Birdie Challenge with a field best eight birdies for the weekend. He also posted a field best performance on par four holes with a 4.1 scoring average. Sam McGee of Charlotte, NC finished in second place after shooting rounds of 82 and 76. McGee posted 21 pars and a field best performance on par 5 holes. Jun Lee finished in third after shooting a final round of 83. He added four birdies and 21 pars.
Entering the final round of the tournament, Cameron Daniel of Sharpsburg, GA led the Girls 11-14 Division shooting a round of 86. Daniel was able to hold off the efforts of Tess Davenport and Skylar Thompson to win first place within the division. Daniel was able to maintain her lead shooting a round of 82 on the day with one birdie and 17 pars for the weekend. Tess Davenport of Buford, GA who entered the round on Sunday in third place finished the round with a division low round of 79 to place second. She would win the EFX Birdie Challenge with two birdies. Skylar Thompson of Buford, GA finished in third place with rounds of 87 and 91 adding 13 pars for the weekend. Weather:
