Lippert and Son both prevail in Playoffs
Ariza tops the leaderboard
College Prep Series at University of Kentucky July 17-18
Lexington, Kentucky: (July 18, 2014) The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Lexington, Kentucky on July 17-18 for the College Prep Series at the University of Kentucky. The weather offered ideal conditions to golf for both tournament days. The winners in each age division received an automatic bid into the 2014 Tour Championship December 6-7. The Top 15 finishers also received points towards year end honors which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.
Boys 15-18 Age Divison At the end of the first round, Jacob Vrolijk of Dry Ridge, Kentucky was the leader shooting a round of 70 on Thursday. On Friday, a comeback was made by Tyler Lippert of Mount Olivet, Kentucky, who ended up shooting a 73 to force a playoff with Michael Vissing who shot a 75 in the final round. Both players finished with a two-day total of 147 and were forced to play a playoff to break the tie. The Boys 15-18 champion was finally decided when Tyler Lippert sank a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the tournament. Drew Burke of Ashland, Kentucky finished in 3rd place with a two-day total of 151.
Boys 11-14 Age Divison At the end of the first round, Matt Ariza of Naples, Florida and Phil Jones of Alpharetta, Georgia were tied atop the leaderboard by shooting rounds of 75 on Thursday. Luke Raines of Mount Juliet, Tennessee shot a round of 80 in the first round to put him in third going into the final round. In the final round, Matt Ariza was able to hold off an impressive round by Luke Raines to win the Boys 11-14 division by one stroke. Ariza finished with a final round of 75 for a two-day total of 150. Raines shot a final round of 71 for a two-day total of 151 to finish in 2nd place. Phil Jones finished with a two-day total of 153 to finish in 3rd place.
Girls 15-18 Age Division At the end of the first round, Hannah Holzmann of San Antonio, Texas and Sarah Son of Simpsonville, Kentucky were tied atop the leaderboard with scores of 80 on Thursday. Both Holzmann and Son ended up shooting the same score on the second day with a score of 83 on Friday to force a playoff. Both girls had a two-day total of 163. In the playoff, Sarah Son prevailed by making a par on the first playoff hole to win the Girls 15-18 division. Elizabeth Leath of Chesterfield, Missouri made major improvements from the first round to put herself in contention at the top of the leaderboard. In round one, she shot a 92 and shot a 73 in the second round to end with a two-day total of 165. Leath finished in a tie for third with Ali Metzger of Canton, Ohio. Weather: Day 1- Low 70s, sunny and clear skies. Day 2- Low 60s, cloudy and cool. Tournament Yardages: Boys 15-18: 6,861 yards Boys 11-14: 6,128 yards Girls 15-18: 5,796 yards
About us: The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of four age divisions: Boys 15-18, Boys 11-14, Girls 11-14 and Girls 15-18. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, and Pennsylvania.
