College Prep Series at UF in Gainesville, Florida

Competitors Make Gain on Wild Weather

  The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Gainesville, Florida on Thursday, January 19, 2017, to host the College Prep Series at Mark Bostic Golf Course at the University of Florida. The weather was beautiful during the opening round, but everyone was anxious to see what would the weather would do during Sunday’s competition. A large storm was heading towards Gainesville, but thankfully competitors were able to fully complete their final round.The impending storm was no match for the competitors. They were determined to beat the storm and take home awards.The HJGT would like to thank the staff at Mark Bostic Golf Course for allowing HJGT to host this tournament at their course. All six of HJGT’s age divisions participated in this tournament. Participants were able to compete for AJGA stars, JGS rankings, exemptions into the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational at Sea Island Plantation and the 2017 National Championship.    Boys 16-18 Division

Jeremy Sisson of Skaneateles, NY took home the first place trophy for the Boys 16-18 Division. Sisson had a final total of 143 (71-72). In second place their was a tie for this division. Jacob Soucinek of Lake City, FL and Marco Trstenjak of Winnepag, MB both posted final scores of 149. This division played extremely well and quickly at University of Florida, Gainesville course.      Boys 14-15 Division

Tianyu Wu of Howey-In-The-Hills, FL took home the Boys 14-15 Division after participating in a playoff with second place winner, Matthew Soucinek of Lake City, FL. The playoff took place on the 18th hole. The players also had to battle some rain and wind during their playoff hole. They each finished the tournament with a score of 152. Third place was awarded to Zikang Zhan of Valley Stream, NY. Zhan’s total was 156 (76-80). Both Tianyu and Matthew put on a great competition during their playoff.    Boys 11-13 Division

Chase Carroll of Jacksonville, FL was the winner of the Boys 11-13 Division. Carroll shot an impressive 73 during the first round and ended the tournament with a total of 157 (73-84). Connor Pope of Tampa, FL was awarded the second place trophy after shooting a total of 160 (78-82). Third place went to Harris Barth of Atlanta, GA. Barth finished the weekend with a total of 162 (75-87). There was a lot of great play from this division this weekend which means the HJGT has a lot to look forward to in the future.   Boys U10 Division

Gavin Fleming of Jacksonville, FL won the first place trophy in the Boys U10 division. Fleming won with a final total of 163 (86-77). Second place was awarded to Ethan Keen of West Palm Beach, FL. Keen had a final total of 175 (91-84). These were the only two competitors in this division this weekend, so both competitors got to know each other very well during this tournament. Players had fun navigating the course with their caddies.   Girls 14-18 Division

The Girls 14-18 Division also wanted to get in on the playoff fun this weekend. After competing in four playoff holes, a winner was finally determined. Britney Mangan of Clermont, FL won this division. Second place was awarded to Celeste Valinho of Jacksonville, FL. These ladies both finished with a final round total of 159. Lillian Berry took home the third place trophy with a total of 161 (78-83). There was a lot of competition in this division during the weekend and it made for some exciting golf.   Girls U13 Division

Allie Kantor of Marietta, GA took home the Girls U13 trophy  this weekend. She finished the tournament with a total of 165 (85- 80). Kaitlyn Schroeder of Jacksonville, FL grabbed the second place trophy with a final total of 176 (86-90). Andrea Woods of Riverview, FL rounded out the division with a total of 181 (95-86). This was a small field this weekend, but these ladies played the course well and had fun doing it.

Round 2: Low 62, High 78. Mostly Cloudy, Isolated Rain Showers, Wind 15-25 mph
