Vanderbilt Legends Golf Course at Franklin, Tennessee (March 5-6, 2016)

On March 5-6, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to beautiful Franklin, Tenn., to host the College Prep Series at Vanderbilt at Vanderbilt Legends Golf Course. The course was in good shape, playing conditions were great, and it also provided for a great challenge for the long weekend of golf. Winners in all five age divisions received an automatic bid to the 2016 Tour Championship on Dec. 3-4. The top three in each division also received an invitation to the 2016 Druh Belts Mid Season Invitational at Chateau Elan on June 11-13 and the top-ten finishers also received points towards end year honors, which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. The Boys 11-13, Boys 14-15, Boys 16-18 and Girls 14-18 all received Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS) ranking.
Boys 16-18 Division

Michael Shears[/caption] In the Boys 16-18 division, local player Michael Shears of Franklin took home the first place trophy and posted the lowest score of any division. Shears finished the weekend off with an impressive two-day total of 148. On Saturday, Shears carded a 73 with one birdie and three bogeys. Shears came into day two tied for first with Ryan Bradshaw of Cookeville, Tenn., and battled fifteen mile per hour winds to still post a good score, a 75 that included three birdies and six bogeys. In a share of second place three strokes behind Shears were Nicolas Cassidy of Johns Creek, Ga., and Austin Vukovits from Fishers, Ind. Cassidy started the tournament off with a 77 in round one,with two birdies and four bogeys. Cassidy quickly turned it around on Sunday with a score of 74 that featured one birdie and three bogeys. Vukovits posted a 75 in round one with three birdies and five bogeys, and a round two score of 76, with four birdies and four bogeys.
Boys 14-15 Division

Jackson Elzinga[/caption] In the Boys 14-15 age division another Franklin native, Jackson Elzinga, home the first place trophy. Elzinga finished the weekend off with an impressive 156 two-day total. On Saturday, Elzinga had a round-one score of 77 with four bogeys. He followed it up with a 79, including one birdie and six bogeys, which was good enough to earn a two-stroke victory against the field of 22 competitors. Second place resulted in a tie between Addison Carney from Franklin and Joshua Holtschlag from Brentwood, Tenn. Carney started off with a 79 in round one with two birdies and five bogeys, and posted the same score on Sunday with two birdies and two bogeys. Holtschlag had scores of 77 (six bogeys) and 81 (one birdie, six bogeys, two double-bogeys).
Boys 11-13 Division

In the Boys 11-13 division, Jaden Zimmer from Humboldt, Tenn., took home the first place hardware. Zimmer finished the weekend off with an impressive 157 two-day total. Zimmer had a round one score of 81 with eight bogeys. Zimmer posted two birdies on the weekend and posted a 76 in round two for a five-stroke victory. Billy Goddard from Canton, Ga., came in second place with a 162 (78-84). Goddard started off with a 78 in round one with two birdies and nine bogeys, and an 84 on Sunday with one eagle and twelve bogeys. Third place was taken by Charles Warren from Huntsville, Ala., who finished at 174. Warren carded a first-day total of a 89, with one birdie and eight bogeys, and a second day total of a 85 with nine bogeys.
Girls 14-18 Division

Megan Furtney[/caption] In the Girls 14-18 division, Megan Furtney from South Elgin, Ill., finished the tournament in the top spot. Furtney came out on Saturday dropping one birdie and eight bogeys on her way to a solid round of 82. On Sunday, Furtney saw an incredible turnaround scoring an impressive 76 with one birdie and one bogey. Furtney’s two-day total was a 158, putting her one stroke in front of second. In second place was Nicole Ciskowski from Barrington, Ill. Ciskowski had a round one score of 77, which consisted of one birdie and five bogeys. Ciskowski was able to climb to second place after an 82 giving a two-day total of a 159, with one birdie and six bogeys, only one strokes from first place. Angelina Chan of Franklin took home third place out of 14 with a two-day total of a 164. Chan scored an 86 round one and a 78 round two.
Girls 13U Division

Meiyi Wu[/caption] In the girls 13 and under age division, Meiyi Wu from Cincinnati, Ohio, took home the first place trophy with two impressive rounds. On Saturday, Wu set the foundation for what would be a two-day total when she carded a 110 which saw her roll in five bogeys and twelve double-bogeys. In round two, Wu improved for a 107 that had four bogeys and twelve double-bogeys. Finishing in second place was Reese Clark from Geneva, Ill. Clark played a very consistent game all weekend scoring a 113 with three bogeys and fourteen double bogeys. She then recorded a 118 with three bogeys and fourteen double bogeys to finish out the weekend with a 231 two-day total.
