College Prep Series at UF – May 9-10, 2015

Gainesville, FL (May 10, 2015) The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Gainesville, FL on May 9-10 for the College Prep Series at UF. Saturday’s round began with beautiful weather and eager junior golfers. The weather was even better Sunday, with clear and sunny skies, little to no wind, and temperatures climbing into the 80’s. Add this to the fact that Mark Bostick Golf Course was beautiful, setting the stage for an amazing two rounds of golf. Trophy winners in all five divisions received an invitation to the 2015 Mid-Season Invitational and winners additionally received an invitation to the 2015 HJGT National Championship. Additionally, the top ten finishers in each division received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup. The Boys 15-18 division was a tight battle both days at the University of Florida. After Saturday’s opening round, Jose Carlos Lasso of Winter Garden, FL was in the lead carding an impressive 73 (+3). For a couple of players, the title was up for grabs entering Sunday’s final round. The biggest charge on Sunday came from Alex Gibson of Wesley Chapel, FL who was on fire on the back nine birding holes 11, 12 and 16. Gibson’s strong play in Sunday’s final round is what ultimately lead him to his one stroke victory over day one leader Jose Carlos Lasso. Jose Carlos Lasso came in second place with a total of 148 and Connery Meyer received third place with a total of 150. In the Girls 15-18 division, Isabella Cardenas of Winter Garden, FL would capture her first victory on Tour this year. Cardenas would post an impressive final round 70 (E) to go along with an opening round 72 for a 3 shot margin of victory. Isabella’s final round included three birdies, two on the front nine and one on the back nine. Cardenas was followed on the leader board by Jennifer Zhoue of Longwood, FL (145) and Tania Nunez of Winter Garden, FL (152). Congratulations to Isabella Cardenas on her first win of the season! Joe Pagdin would play a phenomenal two rounds of golf to capture the title in the Boys 13-14 Division.With a first round score of 68 (-2) and a 12 stoke lead it was going to be tough for anyone to catch him on day two. Pagdin continued to play consistent on day two shooting 68 (-2) once again. We know the future is bright for Joe and we can’t wait to see him back on Tour this year!  Brandon Bulla would take home the second place trophy with a 36 hole total of 158.  In third place was Richard Jacobs with a two day total of 163. Entering Sunday’s final round Katie You of Windermere, FL would hold a two shot lead over Sarah Scott of Oviedo, FL.You’s impressive first round of 75 (+5) would ultimately secure her the win in the Girls 11-14 Division. Katie would post rounds of 75-85 highlighted by three birdies. Tiara Carter of Lake City, FL would follow You on the leader board with a two day total of 165 and Ainsley Mann of Apopka, FL with a total of 167. This win marks the third of Katie’s 2015 season! Memberships for the 2015 season start at $139 and tournament fees range from $189-$229 for 36 hole events.
