Rugged Weather on a Championship Course
On October 15th and 16th 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Lafayette, Indiana to host the College Prep Series at Kampen Golf Club. The course was full of hazards, nature, and wet fairways. Saturday was surprising showers with junior golfers competing heavily amongst each other on a tough course. Sunday began with a warming sunrise, and at 8:30AM, the golfers begin their journey for the championship. Winners in all four age divisions will receive an automatic bid into the National Championship on December 3rd and 4th, 2016. The weekend was full of wind and rain, and every junior golfer played their best to earn possible invitations into the December National Championships. The cold weeks is expected to inquire many talents as the golfers’ train and compete for major championships.

In the Girls 14-18 division, Ryan Bender of Louisville, KY took home the first place trophy. Bender shot a first round score of 80 which quickly separated her from the rest of the playing field. Her two-day total of 157 gave her the victory over Sophie Linder who finished with a 161. Ryan Bender of Louisville, KY was quite humble at the thought of winning this Hurricane Junior Golf event. All of the participants had a wonderful time at Kampen Golf Course. Finishing with the best score, Bender told our tournament director that she enjoyed the course despite the rough weather and wishes to continue playing in future Hurricane Junior Golf tournaments.

In the Boys 16-18 division, after two remarkable rounds, Drew Alexander of McCordsville, IN took home the first place trophy. Alexander shot a first round score of 74 which quickly set him apart from the rest of the playing field. His two-day total of 149 edged him to victory over Rory Gierhart who finished with a 163. Drew Alexander of McCordsville, IN was joyful at the thought of winning this Hurricane Junior Golf event. It came down to the final score card which determined a winner for the 16-18 boy’s division. All of the participants had a wonderful time at Kampen Golf Club. Finishing with the best score, Alexander told our tournament director that he enjoyed the Championship playing field and wish to continue competing in Hurricane Junior Golf events.

In the Boys 11-13 age division, Thomas Henderson of Cincinnati, OH took home the first place trophy. Henderson had a first round one score of 83 and a second round score of 85. Henderson’s tournament total was 168. Aidan Gutierrez of Valparaiso, IN took home the second place trophy. Guiterrez had a round one score of 85 and a round two score of 84. His tournament total was 169. Ben Burgan of Westfield, IN took home the third place trophy. Burgan had a round one score of 83 and a round two score of 92 after 18 holes. His tournament total was 175.

In the Boys 14-15 division, Matthew Garside of Vadnais Heights, M took home the first place trophy with an overall score of 154. Garside shot a round one score 79, and a round two score of 75. Although the weather was a factor throughout the course of the tournament, Garside attained his ability to defeat Blake Wisdom of Lakre Geneva, WI by four strokes who shot an overall score of 159.
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18, and Girls 11-13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, California, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Louisiana, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and more.
