College Prep Series at Kent State
Windmill Lakes Golf Club
(May 27-29, 2017)
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour had an exciting Memorial Day weekend at the Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna, Ohio. We would like to thank the Windmill Lakes Golf Club for allowing us to put on a great event at their course. Since it was a holiday weekend there were players that traveled as far as Iowa and Canada to compete in this tournament. With weather playing a pretty big factor players had to overcome very wet and rainy course conditions to succeed. Even though the weather conditions were not the best for golf, players brought their A game to the course. There was quite a bit at stake during this tournament for the top 3 finishers of each division. The top 3 finishers in each division would receive exemption for the 2017 National Championships on December 2-3, 2017 along with qualifying for the Mid-Season Invitational at Sea Island Plantation on June 11-13. The top ten finishers also were rewarded points towards end of the year honors, which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. Boys 16-18
Taking home first place in the Boys 16-18 age division at the College Prep Series at Kent State was Charlie Toman of Chardon, Ohio who had rounds of 64-72-70 and an overall of 206. Charlie would get out to an early commanding leading shooting a very impressive six under during the first round. With the rest of the pack chasing Charlie, Jules Blakely of Westlake, Ohio would stay not too far behind the leader shooting three and four over in the first two rounds. Jules would match Charlie on Monday in the final round with a 70 and an overall of 217. The player taking home third place was Alex Morrison of Toledo, Ohio who also was not far behind the leader shooting two over in round one and two and finishing the tournament with a 74 an overall score of 218, just one shot behind the second-place finisher.
For the Boys 14-15 age division, we had a nail bitter between two competitors but in the end taking home the first-place finish was Hudson Hummel of Louisville, Kentucky. Getting off to a great start Hudson would stay toward the top of the group by registering a 73 and 74 in the first two rounds. In the final round, he would shoot a 78 and finish with an overall off 225 beating our second-place competitor, Davis Money of Louisville, Kentucky. Davis took the lead after day one shooting a 72 and followed his hot start with a 78 and 76 putting him one stroke behind our first-place winner with a 226 overall. Rounding out the Boys 14-15 division and taking home third place was Conner Stevens of Brookfield, Ohio. Consistency seemed to be Conner’s game this week after registering a 77-77-78-232 respectively. Girls 14-18
For the Girls 14-18 division, Jessica Hahn of Canton, Ohio would hold off the rest of the division and finish in first place. Jessica played very well even with the wet conditions on the course and registered scores of 72-69-77-218. After getting off to a hot start and shooting a one under in the second round, Jessica would hold off the rest of the pack and secure a first-place finish. Taking home the second-place trophy was Ashley Knight of Sylvania, Ohio registering a 75-75-71-221. After falling behind in the first two rounds Ashley would bunker down and shoot one over and just sneak into second-place. Taking home the third place trophy in this weekends tournament was Jennifer Wang of Solon, Ohio. Jennifer registered scores of 71-78-73-222 finishing just one stroke behind our second-place competitor. Girls 13U
In the Girls under 13 division Greta Hope Gobezie of Hunting Valley, Ohio would take home the first-place trophy and register scores of 99-96-93-288 respectively. As the weather improved each day so did Greta’s score dropping three strokes each day. Even though the weather caused many players to change their game, Greta would stick to what she knew and guider herself to an easy victory. Weather May 27- May 29, 2017 Round 1: Low: 53, High: 72.
