Connelly conquers tough course and pulls out victory
Holtz consistent play is enough for win
Auburn, AL (March 10, 2013) - The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour made its first ever trip to Alabama for the College Prep Series at Auburn University. The event was hosted by the immaculate Auburn University Club. The event was the first in the college prep series. The college prep series takes junior golfers to many of our country’s finest university golf clubs. The weather cooperated this weekend with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s and sun in the skies for most of both days. The event was ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and the winners of all four divisions received automatic bids to the 2013 Tour Championship. Due to the fact that this was a college prep series event the top 15 finishers in all four divisions received points towards the Hurricane Cup and All-HJGT Teams.
Justin Connelly won the boy’s 15-18 age division after shooting a consistent 76-79. Connelly won by six strokes over his fellow competitors. Connelly led the field in most major categories including most birdies with five and most pars with 18. Finishing in second place was Alabama native Chase Williams. Williams was tied with Connelly for best par three performance with a 3.25 average and had the second most total pars with 16. Adam Morris finished in third with a 20 over par for the tournament. Morris finished with the best par four performance with a 4.50 average and had the second most pars with 16.
Miranda Holt won the girl’s 15-18 age division after posting scores of 89-85. Holt led in all major categories over the weekend. This included having the most birdies with two and the most pars with 15. Holt also led in average scores on par threes, fours, and fives. Eclectic, AL native Ashton Maddaloni finished in second place. Maddaloni had the second most pars with 12. Savannah Rainbolt took home third place. Rainbolt faired best on par threes where she finished with the second best average.
The boy’s 11-14 age division was won by Christian Baliker. Baliker held on to a 2-stroke day one edge by shooting a day two 82. Baliker had the best average score in his division on par threes, fours, and fives. Baliker also had the most pars in the tournament with a total of 21. Daniel Fienemann of Peachtree City, GA took home the second place trophy after posting a score of 24 over par. Fienemann had the most birdies in his division with two.
The girl’s 11-14 age division was won by the always remarkable Sabrina Hoskins. Hoskins took home her fifth 1st place trophy of the year. Hoskins shot an all divisions best 76 on day one to win the tournament. Hoskins had the most birdies with three and also had the most pars with 16. Hoskins’ sister Sydney took home second place by shooting a consistent 89-87. The third place trophy was awarded to Annika Blanton who played two strong rounds. Golfers who participate on tour will compete in one of four age divisions: Boys 15-18 Division, Boys 11-14 and Girls 15-18 Division and 11-14 Division. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the southeast as well as Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.
