Cog Hill Junior Championship at Cog Hill Course #3

(July 23-24, 2016)

  On Thursday, June 21, 2016 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Lemont, IL to host the Cog Hill Junior Championship at the beautiful Cog Hill course #3. Sunshine was abundant on both Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the upper 90s. The HJGT would like to thank The Cog Hill staff for allowing us to host our Cog Hill Junior Championship out at a great venue. The boys 14-18 champion, girls 14-18, as well as boys 11-13 division’s top performers received Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking points. The winners in each division will receive an exemption into the HJGT Tour Championship on December 3-4, 2016 and the top ten finishers also received points towards year-end honors. Once that first tee shot sored through the air, the golfers were ready to put their clubs to the ball and make their mark on the course.

Boys 16-18 Division

Round one started out as a close race between Michael Holtz, of Godfrey, IL, Ben Kisla, of Western Springs, IL, and Hunter Treiber, of Bloomingdale, IL. Holtz was leading by one stroke after round 1, while Kisla and Treiber were not far behind. At the end of the second round Devin Johnson, of Geneva, IL came into the club house with a great round of four under par 68, which put him at the top of the leader board. Once all the boys finished their rounds Johnson’s score of 68 would hold up to be the best of the tournament to give him the victory over Holtz by one stroke.      

Boys 13-14 Division

After the first round there were three boys in contention, Max Golding, of Highland Park, Daniel Love, of Owensboro, KY, and Blake Wisdom, of Lake Geneva, WS. Golding and Love were tieed at the top of the leader board with great rounds of one over 73. After the second round, Golding came out on top shooting a second round 72 to give him a four stroke victory over Love. All of these boys in this division played well and we look forward to seeing them in future tournaments.      

Boys 11-13 Division

The winner Pierce Grieve, of Lake Forrest, IL shot a 75 in the first round and was able to shoot another good score in the second round with a 78 for a total of 153. Coming just two strokes shy of Grieve, Luke Tedford, of Lake Forrest, IL and Samuel Mortell, of Chicago, IL. Both boys had a good Saturday round of 79 and both ended up shooting 76 the second round for a total of 155 for the tournament. Grieve, Tedford, and Mortell all had good rounds this weekend at the Cog Hill Junior Championship at Cog Hill course #3 and we look forward to seeing them play again with us soon.      

Girls 14-18 Division

The girls 14-18 was another great competition between the top three contestants. Sarah Arnold, of St. Charles, IL had a solid first round finishing at 76, which was good enough for the lowest score in her age division in the first round. She followed up an great first round with a score of 78 in the final round to finish at a total of 154 for the tournament. Abigail, Bitto, of Bollingbrook, IL and Nicole Jordan, of Saint Charles, IL both had good tournaments finishing with total scores of 161 and 167 respectively. This was an excellent group of girls to watch and they played well all weekend.

Round 2: Low 90, High 100. Mostly Sunny, Wind 10-15 mph

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
