Coastal Carolina Jr. Challenge
(July 8-9)
On Thursday, July 6, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Hilton Head Island to host the Coastal Carolina Junior Challenge at Haig Point. The golfers fought through two very hot days at the coast, but nothing got in their way of enjoying the weekend. The players had fun competing not only on a regional level, but also against top international players. There was a lot at stake at this tournament including the top three from each age division receiving exemption into the 2017 National Championships. The top 10 finishers in each division will receive points towards year end honors which include All State Teams, All HJGT Teams and the Hurricane Cup. SCJGA and TYGA points were also up for grabs. Boys 16-18

Ethan Miller of Round Rock, TX is the Boys 16-18 champion. Miller posted a 75 on Saturday and an impressive 71 on Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 146. He beat out Jonathan Griz of Hilton Head Island, SC who posted the tournament-low 70 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday. Hoshi Yadav of the United Arab Emirates and Alessandro Lamarca of Westwood, NJ tied for third place posting a total-score of 151. The players had a great time competing against international competition, and they enjoyed their time on the island. Boys 14-15

Chris Hirata of Savannah, GA is the champion of the Boys 14-15 division. Hirata posted a 76 on Saturday and an improved 72 on Sunday for a two-day total of 148. Mason Kleinlein of Statesboro, GA came in second after finishing with a two-day total of 156 (78-78). Blake Weinbach of Columbia, SC was the third place finisher with a tow-day total of 157 (77-80). The players enjoyed the course and the opportunity to show off their skill. Boys 11-13

Will Jones of Alpharetta, GA is the Boys 11-13 champion. After an 81 on Saturday, Jones closed with a final round of 80 to secure the victory with a two-day total of 161. Dylan Zhang of Hong Kong came in second with a two-day total of 163 (79-84). Marshall Butler of Macon, GA finished in third place with a total of 164 (79-85). The boys displayed tremendous fortitude while trekking through the difficult course layout. Girls 14-18

Katie Whitfield of Clemson, SC is the Girls 14-18 champion. Whitfield posted a 78 Saturday and a 79 Sunday for a two-day total of 157. Finishing in second was Josie Arant of St. Simon’s Island, GA who posted rounds of 85 and 84 to score a total of 169. Sae Sato from Tokyo, Japan finished in third place with a two-day total of 174 (83-91). The ladies enjoyed their experience and their competition.
Girls 13U

Mary Miller of Savannah, GA is the Girls 13 and under champion. Kashima claimed the title after a 77 Saturday and a 74 Sunday for a two-day total of 151. Finishing second with a two-day total of 167 (85-82) was One Kashima of Tochigi, Japan. Zoe Duval of Cumming, GA finished in third place with a two-day total of 207 (111-96). The girls showed maturity in dealing with the course’s many challenges.
Boys 10U

Jackson Armbuster of Simpsonville, SC took home the first place trophy for the Boys 10 and under division. Armbuster managed the difficult course well and he was able to improve from a 99 on Saturday to a 93 on Sunday. Great job this weekend Jackson and thanks for coming out and competing with us.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
