One Putts in Ohio

  This weekend July 23-24, 2016 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour took on Grey Hawk Golf Club in Lagrange, Ohio. Despite some rain during the second round the golfers persevered to make for a great weekend at this wonderful course. Thank you to Grey Hawk Golf Club for allowing HJGT to host this event at their beautiful course. Three age divisions were in play this weekend as Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings were on the line. The top ten finishers in each division will receive points towards the Hurricane Cup. Additionally, the winner of each division will be invited to play in the National Championship held in Orlando, Florida in December. The golfers came to the first tee ready to conquer the tough challenges of the course and they did not disappoint.  

Boys 16-18 Division

Wesley Neal was the champion of the boys 16-18 division. The Westlake, Ohio native shot a 71 in the first round and a 75 in the second for a 146 overall to finish at the top of the division. Michael Schnur from Kirtland Hills, Ohio took home second place after he shot a 76 on Saturday and a 74 on Sunday to finish the tournament with an overall score of 150. Ben Gleichauf out of North Olmsted, Ohio shot a 79 and a 73 for a score of 152 to finish in third place. Neal led the division in birdies with a total of seven. Colin Chapman out of Washington, Pennsylvania, had the only eagle in the division on the 10th hole of the first round. All of these golfers had a great time competing against some of the best golfers in the nation and were very competitive throughout the weekend.  

Boys 14-15 Division

Jarrod Teeter was the champion of the boys 14-15 division. Teeter, a Johnstown, Ohio native shot a 79 in the first round and an 83 in the second round to solidify his victory with a 162 overall. Preston Nanthavong from Groveport, Ohio finished in second place with a total score of 168, after he shot an 87 on Saturday and an 81 on Sunday. Ian Shemo out of Westlake, Ohio came in third place after he finished the tournament with an overall score of 194. Teeter had 17 pars in the tournament to lead the division in this category. He also led the division with a nine-hole bogey free streak. All of the golfers showed a great deal of sportsmanship throughout the weekend and look forward to competing together again in the future.    

Girls 14-18 Division

Kaylee Neumeister was the champion of the girls 14-18 division. Nuemeister from Cortland, Ohio shot a 75 in the first round and a 78 in the second round to finish the tournament with an overall score of 153. Tatum Mckelvy out of Sewickley, Pennsylvania shot an 83 on Saturday and a 79 on Sunday for a 162 to take home second place in the division. Claire Orr from Erie, Pennsylvania shot an 83 followed by an 81 to finish in third place with a 164 overall. Orr had a total of 22 pars to lead the division in this category. Alyson Kovach out of Strongsville, Ohio had a two-hole birdie or better streak to lead the division. All of the golfers had a great time this weekend showing off their talents at this beautiful course.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
