On April 15th and 16th 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour continued its spring season at the gorgeous Signature of Solon Country Club. The first round on Saturday was completed under very good weather conditions, while the second round on Sunday was met a cloudy skies and strong winds, while heavy storms missed that lead to sunny skies. The players all provided a great and competitive atmosphere for all of the spectators who came out to support them. The fantastic attitudes from the players made for an excellent tournament. The winners of all three of the age divisions will receive an invitation to the Tour Championship later on this year and the top ten finishers also received points towards the end of the year Hurricane Cup. AJGA stars were also awarded for this weekend event. Boys 16-18 Division
In the Boys 16-18 Division, Cole Corder from Powell, Ohio took home the first place trophy. His scores for the tournament were an impressive 74-74-148. Cole had a very impressive tournament and started off hot from the start. Cole finished the tournament with an outstanding 6 birdies overall. Cole Christman from Canfield, Ohio finished in 2nd place with scores of 70-81- 151. Christman struggled on the tough course and fell out of the lead on the second day, although finishing with four birdies throughout the weekend. Enrico Sciulli rounded out the top 3 with scores of 80- 76-156. Sciulli finished with an impressive five birdies to move in to 3rd place, Boys 14-15 Division
In the Boys 14-15 Division, Shawn Sehra from Windsor, Ontario came out on top after a very exciting three-hole playoff. Sehra battled back on Sunday to force the playoff with scores of 77-81 -158 to bring home the first place prize. Luke Lestini ultimately fell short in the playoff after an outstanding weekend of golf. Lestini registered scores of 75-83 -158 for the tournament. Lestini played very well including five birdies throughout the weekend. Coming right behind Sehra and Lestini was Drew Salyers from Howard, Ohio who came out one stroke out of the playoff . Salyers finished with scores of 80- 79 – 159. Salyer finished the weekend with an overall five birdies. Girls 14-18 Division
The Girls 14-18 Division Katie James from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania was able to come away with the first place trophy. Katie shot impressive scores of 80-71-151. James got off to a strong start that put her in the lead group, in a tie for the lead on the final round on Sunday. James finished even stronger on Sunday by shooting a one under 71, which include 8 birdies throughout the weekend. Coming in second place not far behind James was Mikaela Schultz from West Bloomfield, Michigan. Schultz put up scores of 77- 80 for the tournament. Schultz’s fast start for the tournament was able to put in the lead after the first round. Finishing close to Schultz was Savannah Haque who came in third place. Haque registered scores of 80- 78 -158. Haque was able to show steady improvement by shooting two strokes better in the final round. This improvement was able to vault her into the top 3.
About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon. In 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour announced a partnership with Nexus, an international hospitality and entertainment company backed by financier Joe Lewis and Tavistock Group, golfing great Tiger Woods and musician and entertainer Justin Timberlake, which will further our collective goal of growing the game of golf, broadening the Tour’s reach across the U.S. and around the world.
