Sunshine was abundant on both Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the upper 80s. The HJGT would like to thank The Bolingbrook staff for allowing us to host our Chicago Summer Challenge out at a great venue. The top performers and champions of the boys and girls divisions received valuable point for Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking. The winners in each division will receive an exemption into the 2016 Tour Championship December 3-4, 2016 and the top 10 finishers receive points towards year-end honors, which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. With all the rankings on the line, the golfers were ready to give it their all.
Boys 16-18 Division
Round one started out as a close race between Dylan Cervantes, of Moline, IL, David Lipan, of Aurora, IL, and Tommy Falcone, of Oswego, IL. Cervantes was leading by 3 strokes after round 1, Lipan and Falcone were not far behind. At the end of the second round Joe Reilly, of Clarendon Hills, IL came into the club house with a great round of one under par 71,, which put him at the top of the leader board while the leaders were still out on the course. Once all the boys finished their rounds Reilly’s score of 71 would hold up to be the best of the tournament to give him the victory over Cervantes and Schanzer by 5 strokes.
Boys 14-15 Division
Max Farley, of Orland Park, IL, Max Golding, of Highland Park, IL, and Philip Wong, of West Bloomfield, MI all started off great with scores of 76, 77, and 77 respectively. With a one stroke lead for Farley, they battled the course for the final round of the tournament. Overall, all top three finishers finished strong on day 2. Coming in third place, Farley finished with a score of 89 for the day giving him a total score of 165 for the tournament. Golding finished with a total score of 86 on the second day, coming in at a total score of 163 which was good enough for second place. Wong finished first place with a score of 84 making his overall total 162.
Boys 11-13 Division
With only three competitors in the Boys 11-13 division, the competition was still very good between these younger boys. The winner, Pierce Grieve, of Lake Forrest, IL shot a 79 in the first round and was able to best that score in the second round with a 74 for a total of 153. Coming just eleven strokes shy of Grieve, Luke Tedford, of Lake Forrest, IL. He had a good Saturday round of 82 and ended up shooting the same score the second round for a total of 164 for the tournament. Both Grieve and Tedford had a good round this weekend at the Chicago Summer Challenge at Bolingbrook and we look forward to seeing them play again with us soon.
Girls 14-18 Division
The girls 14-18 was another great competition between the top three contestants. Arushi Singh, of Naperville, IL had a solid first round finishing at 74, which was good enough for the lowest score in her age division in the first round. She followed up an excellent first round with another great score of 79 in the final round to finish at a total of 153 for the tournament to secure the 18 stroke victory. Jasmine YI, of Arlington Heights, IL and Sophia Lau, of Glenview, IL both had good tournaments finishing with total scores of 171 each. This was an excellent group of girls to watch and they played well all weekend.
The girls U13 has only two ladies in the division, Ella and Evie Greenberg. Ella Greenberg got the best of her younger sister with a tournament total of 187 and Evie Greenberg with a tournament total of 201. These two ladies toughed out the heat and wind to play a great tournament we are looking forward to seeing them both in future events.
After an early WD on Saturday morning, young Henry Reiland was the only boy in his division. Even though it was different for Reiland to play with these young ladies, he came out and played his game and shot 93 in round one and came out and bested that score by 5 strokes with a final round of 88 and a tournament total of 181. We look forward to seeing Henry in future events and wish him luck on the rest of the tournaments this summer.
