This weekend the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour took on the Red Tail Golf Club in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The weekend was full of beautiful weather for the field to experience the tough challenges that came with the course. We cannot thank the staff of Red Tail Golf Club enough for the great shape of their course and the hospitable atmosphere for the players. Five age divisions were in play as the field was filled with talented young golfers. The participants were on fire, racking up a total of 55 birdies throughout the two-day tournament. The Boys 16-18, 14-15, and 11-13 divisions were competing for Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings. The five winners receive an invitation to the HJGT National Championship December 3-4, 2016. Invitations to the Druh Belts Mid-Season Invitational at Chateau Elan on June 11-13, 2016 is granted to the top 3 players in each division. Finally, the top 10 finishers received points toward the year-end honors, which include all HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup.  

Boys 16-18 Division

Eight strokes were all that separated the field after the first round on Saturday at Red Tail Golf Club. Joe Reilly, out of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, finished with the lead after a strong showing on the back nine. He came out strong making par on four of the first five holes. He was able to birdie number 11 on the back nine and finished off the round with a 77. He was able to hold that lead throughout Sunday and finish at the top of his age group with a 155 overall. Despite coming into Sunday five strokes back of second place, Tony Polumbo, a Bloomington, Illinois native, was able to fight his way back into second place and finish off the tournament with a 163 overall. Griffin Steer took home third place with a 164 for the tournament. Congratulations to all the golfers for a great performance in the tournament.  

Boys 14-15 Division

Matthew Garside was the big winner in the boys 14-15 division this weekend. A Vadnais Heights, MN native, Garside fought back after a six-stroke deficit on the first day with four birdies in the second round to come out on top. Second place winner Max Golding finished with a 153 for the weekend including birdie putts on the 3rd, 12th, and 17th holes on Saturday. Aidan Devlin finished off the tournament with a 166 overall and took home third place for the division. Congratulations to all the participants for playing great golf throughout the weekend.  

Boys 11-13 Division

Eric Klutke had a strong first round showing in his hometown tournament. The Crystal Lake native finished the first round with a 74 to take a one-stroke lead into Sunday’s final round over Luke Tedford. Despite a strong showing from Tedford in the second round, Klutke was able to hold him off throughout th e round and finish the tournament just one stroke ahead of Tedford. Klutke finished the tournament with a 149 overall. Luke Tedford, out of Lake Forest, Illinois, was able to birdie two holes in the final round to finish second at the Chicago Spring Classic. Clint Bailes finished in third with a 160 overall for the weekend. Congratulations to all of the participants for the great golf they put on display throughout the weekend.  

Girls 14-18 Division

Despite being down by seven strokes heading into Sundays final round, Wynne Aldrich was able to come out strong on Sunday to clinch the victory. The Valparaiso, Indiana native was able to make birdies on the 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, and 14th holes to finish off the remarkable comeback. She finished off the tournament with a 159 overall, which was just one stroke better than Sarah Arnold who finished with a 160 for the tournament. Lyvia Li was the only competitor in her age division so she was invited to play up in the 14-18 year old division. Despite being younger than her counterparts she held her own and finished off the tournament with a 187 overall and was invited to play in the HJGT National Championship in December.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
