On, May 13th and 14th 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour continued its spring season at the renowned RedTail Golf Club. Both the weather and course were beautiful throughout the weekend. Players took advantage of these great conditions by entertaining spectators with two impressive rounds of golf. Winners in five age divisions will receive an invitation to the Tour Championship later on this year and the top ten finishers also received points towards the end of the year Hurricane Cup and HJGT teams.
In the Boys 16-18 division, Jarod Gray from Algonquin, Illinois took home first place and entertained spectators with consistent golf throughout the weekend. He captured the title with a two-day total of 166. His rounds of 84 and 82 put him ahead of his competitors in a tight field. He clinched the victory with a playoff win. Finishing second place was John Wilken, from Algonquin, Illinois. He shot an 81 on Saturday and an 85 on Sunday for a total score of 166. Both boys battled it out on number 10 for a playoff. Jarod won the hole with a par. The 16-18 division was competitive this weekend and the top finishers played great golf.
In the Boys 14-15 division, Luke Tedford from Lake Forest, Illinois finished in first place. Luke claimed the title by shooting 76 on Saturday and a 79 on Sunday. Luke had two birdies the first day and one during the second round. Michael Smith, from Valporaiso, Indiana, finished in second place. He shot an 80 on Saturday and a 78 on Sunday. In third place there was a tie. Miles Patterson of Chicago, Illinois and Ben Burgan from Westfield, Indiana had a two day total of 166. The Boys 14-15 division had an exciting week, and every competitor in the field displayed two high-quality rounds of golf.
The Boys 11-13 division has some promising talent. Tommy Staruck from Downers Grove, Illinois, took home first place this weekend. He won with a determined mindset and was able to put together a great tournament, scoring a total of 150. Shooting a 75 on both days, Tommy finished the weekend with five birdies. Coming in second place was Jackson Hulsey from St. Charles, Illinois. Jackson shot a 78 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday, finishing with a score of 155 for the tournament. Coming in third was Eli Myers from Northbrook, Illinois. Overall, the Boys 11-13 division brought their talent to the tournament and we were pleased to see great rounds of golf.
The Girls 14-18 division was competitive this weekend. Coming in first with a two-day total of 162 was Wynne Aldrich from Valporaiso, Indiana. She posted a 79 in her first round. She clinched the title with an 73 in the second round. Wynne carded a very impressive 34 on the front nine on Sunday. Coming in second place was Savannah Weyrauch from Bloomington, Illinois. She had rounds of 79 and 75. Both girls had great scores this weekend.
Our Girls 13 and under division played well in beautiful conditions. Kate Strickland from Lincoln, Nebraska claimed first place with a two-day total of 155. She shot a 78 in the first round and an 77 in the second round to take home the victory. Kelsey played well, shooting four birdies throughout the weekend. She earned her trophy by playing great golf throughout the tournament.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
