Chattanooga Junior Challenge at the Bear Trace at Harrison Bay Golf Course in Harrison, Tennessee

 Tennessee Fall Classic

  On Friday, November 10th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Harrison, Tennessee to host the Chattanooga Junior Challenge in Bear Trace at Harrison Bay Golf Course in Harrison, Tennessee. The weather was chilly both mornings in the mid 30’s, and sunny. Later in the day the temperature would go up to the 60’s. HJGT would like to thank Bear Trace for allowing us to host our tournament at such a great venue. The grounds crew did an amazing job with getting the course ready, and the staff was very accommodating. AJGA stars for Girls 14-18, South Caroline JGA, Tarheel Youth GA Points, and Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings were up for grabs this weekend as 74 players were battling for their respective age division titles. Players congregated from all over the south, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Kentucky for a chance at an HJGT title.   Boys 16-18 Division

Sammy Brucker of Franklin, Tennessee was the winner of the Boys 16-18 division. Sammy complimented his excellent weekend performance to the great condition of the course, and his putting in which helped him keep his score in the 70’s. His scores this weekend were 75, 72 (+3). Coming in second by a slim margin was Sam Marshall of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Same improved his score by a stroke by driving the ball consistently. His scores this weekend were 75, 74 (+5). Finishing third was Cade Puryear of Athens, Tennessee. Cade improved a lot on Sunday. After shooting a nine on hole two, he turned into a birdie machine the rest of the day. He shot -3 under which is 13 strokes better than his first round score. His scores this weekend were 82, 69 (+7).   Boys 14-15 Division

Jack Tickle of Bristol, Tennessee won the Boys 14-15 Division. Jack was very dominant all weekend in all aspects of his game. The highlight of his weekend was his hole in one that he shot on hole 14 in the first round. This weekend his scores were 73, 74 (+3). Taking second place was Lance Simpson of Knoxville, Tennessee. Lance drove the ball very consistently, and got tough putts to fall which helped him keep his scores in the mid 70’s. His scores this weekend were 77, 75 (+8). Placing in third was Carter Anderson of Rome, Georgia. Carter came into Sunday very determined to improve his score and to finish top 3. His putting enabled him to improve his score by four strokes, and to take home some hardware. His scores this weekend were 79, 75 (+10).   Girls 14-18 Division

Thienna Huynh of Lilbum, Georgia was the Girls 14-18 Division Champion. This was a nail biter until the very end. Thienna drove the ball very well, and knew the second place finisher was close to taking over first place. She was able to keep it together, and finish strong with her putting. Her first round +1 really helped her chances of sealing up a top 3 finish. Her scores this weekend were 73, 78 (+7). Finishing second was Speedy Kent of Mequon, Wisconsin. This was Speedy’s first Hurricane Tournament, and she did not disappoint. Speedy had superb tee shots, and putted well when she needed too. Even though she lost by one stroke, she should keep her head up high because she had a wonderful performance all weekend. Her scores this weekend were 77, 75 (+8). Taking third place was Annie Pietila of Brighton, Michigan. Annie had two other sisters competing this weekend in the same division, so the family had three chances to take some hardware back to Michigan. Annie looked very poised and determined all weekend, and drove the ball very well. Her scores this weekend were 75, 79 (+10).  Boys 11-13 Division

Rylan Wotherspoon of Florence, Kentucky won the Boys 11-13 Division. Rylan was very impressive all weekend in which he set the tone early in the first round by shooting -3. That first round really helped his confidence, and stayed locked in the final round to seal his victory. His scores this weekend were 69, 77 (+2). Coming in second place was Renato Gerena Jr of Peachtree, Georgia. Renato shot very consistently, and drove the ball very well which helped him strike into the top two finish. His scores this weekend were 80, 80 (+16). Taking third place was Carson Johnson of Signal Mountain, Tennessee. Carson shot an identical +9 both days which kept him in contention due to his putting ability to make it when it counted. He also drove the ball very well this weekend. His scores this weekend were 81, 81 (+18).   Weather November 12-13, 2016:   Round 1: Low 37, High 62. Sunny Round 2: Low 36, High 64. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13.
