Charleston Junior Shootout

On July 28-28, 2016 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to North Charleston to take on Coosaw Creek Country Club. It was a hot and humid week in North Charleston as the golfers took on this beautiful course. Thank you to Coosaw Creek Country Club for allowing HJGT to host this event at their wonderful course. Five age divisions were in play this weekend as Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings were on the line. The top ten finishers in each division will receive points towards the Hurricane Cup. Additionally, the winner of each division will be invited to play in the National Championship held in Orlando, Florida, in December. The golfers came to Coosaw Creek looking to show off their talents against some of the best young golfers in the country and they were ready.
Boys 16-18 Division

Ky Matsumoto was the champion of the boys 16-18 division. Matsumoto, a native of North Charleston, South Carolina, shot an impressive 70 in the first round and a 73 in the second round to finish the tournament with an overall score of 143 to solidify his victory. Brook Dyess from Hilton Head, South Carolina finished in second place after he was able to shoot a 76 on Wednesday and a 77 on Thursday to finish the tournament with a total score of 153. Tommy Verner III finished in third place and just one stroke behind Dyess after he shot back-to-back 77’s to finish with a 154 overall. Matsumoto led the division in birdies with a total of seven throughout the tournament. Dyess had 23 total pars to lead the division in this category. All of the golfers had a great time competing against some of the best golfers in the nation and look forward to competing against each other again in the future.
Boys 14-15 Division

Caden Fletcher was the champion of the boys 14-15 division. The Tampa, Florida native shot an 84 in the first round followed by an 82 in the second round to finish the tournament with an overall score of 166. Jake Vaughan from Chesnee, South Carolina finished in second place and just one stroke behind Fletcher for the lead. He was able to shoot an 88 on Wednesday and a 79 on Thursday to finish with a 167 overall. Pope Arline out of St. Simons Island, Georgia finished in third place after he shot an 86 in the first round and an 83 in the second for a total score of 169. Thomas Johnson out of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina finished with a seven hole bogeyless streak to lead the division in this category. Arline led the division with a total of 18 pars throughout the tournament. All of the golfers showed a great deal of sportsmanship and competitiveness throughout the event and displayed some fantastic golf.
Girls 14-18 Division

Sydney Garber was the champion of the girls 14-18 division. The Fate, Texas native shot an 85 in the first round and an 80 in the second round to lock up a first place finish with a 165 overall. Maya White from Fletcher, North Carolina finished in second place after she shot a 93 on Wednesday and an 86 on Thursday to finish the tournament with a total score of 179. Emma Wofford from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina took home third place in the division after posting an overall score of 181. Lauren Fix out of Summerville, South Carolina and Sydney Garber had the only birdies of the division. The finished in a tie for the division lead in this category. Garber also had a division leading three-hole bogeyless streak. All of the golfers enjoyed competing against each other and look forward to competing again in the future.
Boys 11-13 Division

Jonathan Griz was the champion of the boys 11-13 division. The Hilton Head, South Carolina native shot a 67 in the first round and a 72 in the second round to finish the tournament three strokes under par with an impressive overall score of 139. Pannawit Leelalumert from Blufton, South Carolina, took home second place after he shot a 77 on Wednesday and an 85 on Thursday to finish the tournament with a total score of 162. Tillman Alverson out of Simpsonville, South Carolina finished in third place after he shot an 80 followed by an 85 for an overall score of 165. Griz finished with a total of seven birdies throughout the tournament to lead the division in this category. He also led the division with an impressive 25 pars. All of the golfers came into this event looking to show off their talents and they did not disappoint.
Girls U13 Division

Savannah Hylton was the champion of the girls U13 division. The Hilton Head, South Carolina, native shot an 86 in the first round followed by a 78 in the second round to finish the tournament with an overall score of 164. Sierra Fink out of Peachtree City, Georgia shot an 85 on Wednesday and an 83 on Thursday to finish the tournament with a 168 overall. Hylton finished the tournament with three total birdies to lead the division in this category. She also led the division with an impressive seven hole bogeyless streak. These golfers had a wonderful time competing against each other and look forward to the opportunity to compete again in the future.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13.
