Champion Trace Jr. Challenge Nicholasville, KY Nov. 8-9

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Nicholasville, KY on November 8-9 for the Champion Trace Junior Challenge. Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings were at stake in the Boys 15-18 Division while winners in all divisions received an invitation to the 2014 Tour Championship and points towards the 2014 Hurricane Cup.   Boys 15-18

After battling through the elements on Saturday, one player stood atop the Boys 15-18 leader board entering the final round. Brady Roberts would post an opening round 80 and lead by 1 stroke over Hans Stromberg going into Sunday’s round. Brady managed to shoot another low score of 80 on Sunday to win by 8 strokes going away. “It was a complete grind. The course was tough and the weather was not great but I am happy to come away with a victory,” Brady stated. After posting an opening round 81, Stromberg would come back on Sunday to shoot an 87 to secure a second place finish behind Roberts. Evan Davis shot a nice round of 83, and Robbie Keyes who was playing in the same grouping shot an 84 to bring both of their two day totals to 171 and tie them for 3rd place. Davis would also tie Brady Roberts and Grant Hummel in scoring average on par 3s (3.4) for the weekend. Winner Brady Roberts would lead the field in par 4 scoring (4.2). Runner up, Hans Stromberg would lead the field in par 5 scoring average (5.2) for the weekend. Roberts’ win is his first on tour and earns him a spot in the 2014 Tour Championship in Orlando, FL. Boys 11-14

Two extremely strong rounds by Cooper Parks would be the difference in the Boys 11-14 Division. Parks shot a tournament low 74 on Sunday, and would claim the victory by 4 strokes over Jackson Quarles. Quarles played two great rounds himself shooting the second lowest single round score of the tournament on Sunday at 77. Christian Olsen finished in third, shooting a 189 for the tournament. Parks lead wire to wire and shot the lowest score of the entire tournament with a two-day total of 158. Cooper Parks would also dominate the scoring averages, leading in par 3 (3.2), par 4 (4.4) and par 5 (5.4) average scores.   Girls 15-18

In a small 15-18 year old girls field, Sarah Son would shoot two solid rounds in tough conditions to win her third Hurricane Junior tour event this season. Lilly Young and Anna Kelly would round out the field and prove to be tough competition throughout the two days. Son’s strong second round, 81 left nothing in doubt as she cruised to an easy victory by 6 strokes. Young would shoot an 85 on Sunday for a two-day total of 171, which was good enough for second place. Anna Kelly would improve on her first round score by 2 strokes on Sunday and finish in third.     Girls 11-14

The girls 11-14 year old age division would also only contain three players. The competition, however, was extremely tight throughout both rounds. Ryan Bender went into Sunday with a big 8 shot lead over Lucy Suo and Taylor Edlin. Bender would fall back a few shots thru 14 holes, as Suo was surging hard at only 3 over par at that time. Bender would hold off, however, and secure a 10 shot victory. Suo would finish her Sunday round with an 86, and Taylor Edlin would improve on her first round by 7 shots to finish in third.     Weather: Day 1: Low of 33, high of 57.
