Drive For Show and Putt For Dough
On Saturday, October 14, 2016, the Hurricane Junior golf Tour Traveled to Acworth, GA to host the Canongate Series #7 Tournament at Bentwater Golf Club, The weather for this weekend was wonderful. Saturday afternoon was windy with temperatures in the mid-80s. Sunday morning started out cloudy with temperatures in the mid-70s and transitioned into a sunny day in the afternoon with a slight breeze. The tour would like to thank Scott Wilson and the outside operations staff for letting us host the tournament at Bentwater Golf Club, The 54 Junior golfers who battled in the five age divisions displayed great competitiveness skills, which made for a suspenseful final round to end the tournament. During this tournament, the Junior golfers were playing for JGS rankings, AJGA stars, first place trophies, and an invite to the National Championship that will be held on December 3-4, 2016. This tournament finished with great class and has proven to show that this tournament will be sticking around for the long-run. Boys 16-18

Congratulations to Zach Mullet from Hoschton, GA for clinching the Boys 16-18 division title. He shot a 76 and a par 72 for a tournament total of 148. Trailing behind by two strokes was Varun Yerramsetti from Vestavia, AL He shot a 76 and a 74 for a total of 150. After finishing his round, he said, “the greens were awesome and the field was very competitive, which he enjoyed” Finishing in third was David Frank from Dunwoody, GA. He posted a round one score of 80. In round two, he turned it around to shoot a par 72 for a tournament total of 152. Girls 14-18

In first place was Amy Ng from Alpharetta, GA. She shot a 77 in round one and a 78 in round two for a total of 155. In second place was Thienna Huynh from Lilburn, GA, She shot a disappointing 84, due to the fast greens, but refocused in round two to shoot a 76 for a total of 160, In third place was Angela Deng from Marietta, GA. She shot two consistent rounds in the low 80s with an 80 and 82 for a total of 162. Boys 14-15

With two scores of an 80 and a 76 for a total of 156, Ford Heston from Roswell, GA took home the first place trophy. Just shy of first by one stroke was Jack Hudson from Roswell, GA Jason Meng from Johns Creek, GA, and Mac Thompson from Marietta, GA. All Three boys tied for 2nd with a 157 tournament total. These boys definitely gave it their best to make for an exciting finish. Thank you everyone for a great tournament and we hope to see you next year for another great show at Bentwater Golf Club
Boys 11-13

Jake Peacock from Milton, GA won by five stroke after posting two amazing scores with a one under par 71 and a one over par 73 to result in a 155 tournament total. Peacock bogeyed the last hole to come up short from shooting a one under two round total. He was a little bummed, but still enjoyed his victory. In Second, was Jake’s good friend Devin Patel from Johns Creek, GA. He shot a tournament total of 149 with a 72 and a 77. Finishing in third was Andrew Garger from Sharps burg, GA. He shot a round one score of 79 and managed to shave off a stroke in round two with a 78. for a total of 157. Boys U10
Congratulation to Rogelio Gerena from Peachtree City, GA. He shot a round one score of 92 and showed major improvement in round two with an 82 for a tournament total of 174. After finishing his second round, he said, “this was my lowest career score in a tournament.” . We are proud of him and hope to see Gerena continue to improve his game. Keep it up!! The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
