The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Peachtree City, GA on August 22-23 for the Canongate Series #6 at Flat Creek Club. Despite signs of heavy rain for this weekend, the opening round began on schedule Saturday morning. Flat Creek Club’s staff did an amazing job preparing the course for this weekend and its field size of 90+ junior golfers. Sunday’s took a little ton with heavy rain in the early morning to change the double tee time start to a shotgun start. Trophy winners in all five divisions received an invitation to the 2015 HJGT National Championship. Additionally, the top ten finishers in each division received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup.
Daniel Fienemann of Peachtree City, GA, played some outstanding golf on his way to a wire-to-wire victory for the Boys 15-18 division. He opened with an impressive 69, one of the best rounds of the weekend for that division and followed that score up with a 70 on the second day to have a total of 139 to finish five under par. Fienemann along with Carson Whitton led the field with 9 birdies, having 6 birdies on the first day and 3 on day two. Fienemann had 14 total pars and averaged 3.8 on Par 4s. In second place was Logan Perkins from Locust Grove, GA who shot an impressive 70 on the first day and 71 on the second day for a total of 141. He had eight birdies and 20 pars to round out both days. Coming in a close third was Dylan Fisher from Charlotte, NC who also shot a 69 on the first day and then shot 74 on the second day for a total of 143. Liam Shinn of Norcross, GA, played some amazing golf on his way to a total victory in the Boys 13-14 division. He shot an impressive 68 on the first day, the best round across all divisions and followed that up with a 70 on the second day for a total of 138. That would be six under par even with the heavy rain and its delay. Shinn also had a total of nine birdies and an impressive 24 pars. He averaged 3.9 on Par 4s and 4.62 on Par 5. Coming in second place is Beck Burnette of Blairsville, GA, who also shot a 69 on the first day and a 75 on the second day for a total of 144, which is even par. Burnette had a total of seven birdies and also 24 pars. He also averaged 3.9 on Par 4s and for Par 5s was even. As for third place, Brandon Cho of Suwanee, GA claimed that spot. Cho shot a 72 on the first day and 78 on the second day to have a total of 150. Congratulations to Liam Shinn on his victory at Canongate Series #6!
Evan Reed of Shelbyville, TN traveled all the way to Peachtree City to try and claim his eleventh title this year in the Boys 11-12 division. He succeeds by shooting a 76 and 72 on the first day and second day respectively for a total of 148. Despite the delay, Reed brought his A game on the second day to have a total of six birdies and 20 pars. Coming in second place was Andrew Garger from Sharpsburg, GA with a total of 156, 79 and 77 on the first and second day respectively. He had two birdies and an impressive 21 pars in total to come in second place. As for third place, Deven Patel of Locust Grove, GA, took that spot with a total of 161, 86 and 75 on the first and second day respectively. In the Girls 15-18 division, we saw a switch in play from Saturday to Sunday between Sarah Pabst and Carol Pyon. Sarah Pabst of Niceville, Fl played just well enough to keep here first day lead shooting a 72 on Saturday and a 78 on Sunday for a total of 150. Carol Pyon of Macon, GA didn’t have the best performance on Saturday shooting a 79 but came storming back on Sunday shooting a 73 just falling short of a comeback to finish second with a total of 152. Both Sarah and Carol finished the weekend with 5 birdies each to tie for the most birdies for the weekend. Sarah Pabst performed well on the par 3s finishing with an average of a 3.1 at +1 for the weekend. This is where Sarah outshined Carol who averaged a 3.6 at +5 for the weekend on the Par 3s. Thienna Huynh of Lilburn, Ga overcame a 3 shot deficit from the first day of play to outlast Liza Eubanks of Peachtree City, Ga to win in a playoff for the Girls 11-14 division. Huyuh didn’t have her best game on Saturday shooting an 83 but came back strong on Sunday shooting a 75 for a 2 day total of 158. Eubanks also shot in the 80’s on Saturday shooting an 80 but on Sunday she performed better shooting a 78 for a 2 day total of 158. Huyuh used her 7 birdies this weekend to help her overcome the 3 shot deficit from the first day but Eubanks helped her by only having 2 all weekend. Eubanks outperformed Huyuh on both the Par 3s with an average of 3.4 shooting a +3 and on the Par 4s with an average of 4.5 shooting a +9. Huyuh might not have performed strong on the Par 3s and 4s but she outshined everyone on the Par 5s with an average of 4.8 shooting a -2 on them.
