Gainesville, FL (May 6, 2012) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Gainesville, FL this weekend for the second Bridgestone College Prep Series of the year. With yet another field consisting of over 95 players, this tournament proved to be another success. Players ranged from all over Florida this weekend as well parts of Scotland, Guatemala, Massachusetts, New Jersey, South Carolina, and Chile. The University of Florida made sure the course was in superb condition for us this weekend, and the weather couldn’t have been better with cloudless skies and temperatures in the low 90’s both days. In the boys 15-18 division Kevin Reilly from Oviedo, FL was the champion with a two day score of 139 (71+68). Reilly, who held the overnight lead, finished with the most overall birdies (8), recorded the best par 4 average (3.90), and the best par 5 average (4.50).Coming in second place was BK Choi from Jacksonville, FL with a tournament score of 142 (71+71). Choi had the second most birdies (5) and the third best par 4 average (4.05). There was a two way tie for third place between Joshua Lee from Orange Park, FL (74+70) and Jack Comstock from Jacksonville, FL (72+72) both of which had a two day total of 144. Comstock was the only player in this division to post an eagle and also had the second best par 4 average (3.95). Lee was able to post the second best round on Sunday to make his case for third as well as having the best par or better percentage (86.1%). The girls 15-18 division was won by Alessandra Kutz from Sanford, FL who posted a two day total of 143 (67+76). Kutz held the overnight lead and never looked back with consistent play throughout the weekend. Along with firing a blistering 67 on Saturday, Kutz was able to post the best par 4 average (4.20) and was tied with the most overall birdies (6). Coming in second was Maggie Beth Byers from Howey in the Hills, FL with a two day total of 144 (72+72). Byers also had the best par 5 average (4.50) and the most birdies with (6). Finishing in third from Chile was Isidora Quevedo who posted a two day total of 147 (71+76). Quevedo had the most pars (25) and the best par 3 average (2.80). In the boys 11-14 division Chase Cutshall playing out of Melbourne, FL took home the winner’s trophy by posting a two day total of 147 (69+78). Cutshall also posted the most birdies (4) and had the best par 4 performance (4.10). There was a three way tie for second place between Josh Lewis (Lake Mary, FL), Brandon Mancheno (Jacksonville, FL), and Andrew Alligood (St. Johns, FL). Each player recorded a tournament score of 150 by scoring 76+74, 77+73, 75+75 respectfully. Lewis led his division with the most pars (25), Mancheno had the second best par 4 average (4.30) and Alligood was able to post even on all par 5’s. In the girls 11-14 division Abby Burditt from St. Augustine, FL took home the first place trophy by posting a two day total of 164 (82+82). Burditt was able to post the most pars (15) and also have the best par 5 average (5.33). Hannah Berman from Jacksonville, FL and Navika Kuchakulla from Orlando, FL tied finished for second with a two day total of 168. Berman scored 86 and 82 whereas Kuchakulla posted 88 and 80. Berman had the best par 3 average (3.40) and had the third best par 5 average (5.67). Kuchakulla had the best par 4 average (4.55) and the best par or better percentage (41.7%). Golfers who participate on tour will compete in one of four age divisions: Boys 15-18, 11-14 and Girls 15-18 and 11-14. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the southeast, with stops in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
