Birmingham Junior Challenge

On September 10th and September 11th 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Birmingham, AL to host the Birmingham Junior Challenge at Oxmoor Valley Golf Club. The course was full of elevation changes, and beautiful vistas. Saturday was extremely hot with junior golfers needing ample water to hydrate themselves from hole to hole. Sunday contained a lovely sunrise, and at 7:30 am the golfers begin their quest for the championship. Winners in all four age divisions will receive an automatic bid into the National Championship on December 3rd and 4th, 2016. The upcoming weeks should display many talents as the southern region heats up for exceptional play.



In the Boys 16-18 division, Jackson Singletary of Alabaster, AL took home the first place trophy after two impressive rounds. Singletary shot a first round score of 3 over par and a round two score of 2 over par. His two-day total of 149 edged him to victory over John Baker who came in second with a 150. John Baker of Cumming, GA was ecstatic at the thought of winning his first Hurricane Junior Golf event. It came down to the final score card which determined a winner for the 16-18 Boys division. All of the participants had a wonderful time at Oxmoor Valley. Finishing with not his best score, Ethan Womack told our tournament director that he greatly enjoyed the competition and couldn’t wait for the next tournament.



In the Boys 14-15 age division, Hayden Blair of Tullahoma, TN took home the first place trophy. Bryan Park championship winner, Hayden Blair had a round one score of 81 and a round two score of 73 for a total of 154. Round one leader, Ken Gorforth of Birmingham, AL with a round one score of 75. He shot a round 2 score of 81 to finish in second place. This challenging course definitely showed that nothing could be taken for granted.



In the Girls 14-18 division, Carson Mckie of Hoover, AL took home the first place trophy. Mckie dominated with a round one score of 81 and a round two score of 80. Mckie’s tournament total was 181. Anna Margaret Hays of Muscle, Shoals, AL took home the second place trophy. Hays had a round one score of 85 and a round two score of 78. Her tournament total was 163. Avery Pool of Steens, MS took home the third place trophy. Pool had a round one score of 78 and a round two score of 91. Her tournament total was 169.



In the Boys 11-13 division, the top 3 finishers went toe-to-toe the whole weekend. Maxwell Ford of Peachtree Corners, GA took home the first place trophy with a total score of 152. Ford had a round one score of 75 and finished with a round two score of 77. His twin brother David Ford of Peachtree Corners, GA took home the second place trophy. Hill had a round one score of 77 and a round two score of 79. His tournament total was 156.


Each of competitors at the Birmingham Junior Golf Classic played some extraordinary golf this weekend on a long and tough course. They all proved they were willing to take on the challenge.

Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18, and Girls 11-13.
