Bears Best Junior Shootout at Bears Best Atlanta
Bears Best Golf Course in Suwannee, Georgia

On November 19th and 20th 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Suwannee, Georgia to host the Bears Best Jr. Shootout at Bears Best Golf Course. Saturday was windy weather with great competition on the course. Sunday began with a cold sunrise, and at 10:00AM, the golfers begun their quest for the championship. Winners in all five age divisions will receive an automatic bid into the National Championship on December 3rd and 4th, 2016. The weekend was full of chills and winds, and every junior golfer played their best to earn possible invitations into the December National Championships.
In the Girls 14-18 division, Alejandra Ayala of Alpharetta, Ga took home the first place trophy. Ayala shot a first round score of 74 which quickly separated her from the rest of the playing field. Her two-day total of 150 gave her the victory over Louise Yu who finished with a 152. All of the participants had a great time at Bears Best Golf Course. Finishing with the best score, Ayala told our tournament director that she enjoyed the course despite the cold weather and wishes to continue playing in future Hurricane Junior Golf tournaments.
In the Boys 16-18 division, after two outstanding rounds, Dustin Demersseman of Athens, Ga took home the first place trophy. Demersseman shot a first round score of 77 which quickly set him apart from the rest of the playing field. His two-day total of 146 edged him to victory over Jacob Hatter who finished with a 154. Dustin Demersseman was joyful at the thought of winning this Hurricane Junior Golf event. It came down to the final score card which determined a winner for the 16-18 Boy’s division. Finishing with the best score, Dustin told our tournament director that he enjoyed the competitive playing field and he is looking forward to competing in Hurricane Junior Golf events.
In the Girls 13U division, Sarah Im of Duluth, Ga took home the first place trophy. Im shot a first round score of 78 and a second round score of 74. Her impressive two-day total of 152 edged her to victory over Katherine Chang who finished with a 172.
In the Boys 11-13 age division, McCord Grice of Atlanta, Ga took home the first place trophy. Grice had an amazing first round one score of 80 and a second round score of 76. Grice's tournament total was 156. Kevin Park of Johns creek, Ga took home the second place trophy. Park had a round one score of 80 and a round two score of 74. His tournament total was 164. All competitors showed great sportsmanship throughout the weekend and the HJGT is looking forward to see them at future events.
In the Boys 14-15 division, A. Liam Shinn of Norcross, Ga took home the first place trophy with an overall score of 154. Shinn shot a round one score of 80, and a round two score of 74. Although the wind was a factor throughout the second round of the tournament, Shinn attained his ability to defeat Owen Doherty of Alpharetta, Ga who shot an overall score of 156. The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18, and Girls 11-13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, California, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Louisiana, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and more.
