August Players of the Month

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour is proud to be partnered with Bobby Grace Putters to bring you the Bobby Grace Players of the Month. During each month of the calendar year players will be competing to separate themselves from their peers with their on-course performance to be crowned the Bobby Grace Player of the Month. Each month a player from each division will be chose to receive this award and will receive a free Bobby Grace Putter. Each putter is customized with the official logo of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Players who receive this prize can be assured that they are taking home one of the best putters used in golf today. For the month of August, the player of the month in the Boys 15-18 Division is Rodney Wendt of Evans, Georgia.  Wendt took home the 1st place trophy at the Forest Hills Junior Open with a stellar two day performance shooting a total score of 135 (-9).   In his first day of play at the Forest Hills Golf Club, Wendt birdied a total of 5 times.  What was even more impressive about Wendt’s performance, however, was that he birdied a total of six times on the second day of play.  To add to Wendt’s resume for this tournament, Wendt also won the Par 4 and Par 5 performance challenges with averages of 3.75 and 4.50, respectively. In the Girls 15-18 Division, Whitney Stevenson of Canton, Georgia is this month’s Bobby Grace Player of the Month.  At the Athens Junior Shootout, Stevenson faced stiff competition and it was not until after a one hole playoff that she was crowned champion.   Stevenson’s two day score was 149 (+7) which helped her win the Par 3 performance challenge and come in second in the Par 4 performance challenge.  In addition to her win at the Georgia Club, Stevenson also placed 4th in the Forest Hills Junior Open earlier in the month. This month’s Bobby Grace player of the month in the Boys 11-14 Division is Josh Lewis of Lake Mary, Florida.  In the one day Northeast Florida Junior Open, Lewis posted a total score of 71 (-1) which had him 2 strokes ahead of the nearest competitor.  In addition to his impressive performance in which he birdied three times, Lewis also won the Par 3 performance challenge with an average of 2.75 and also had the highest percentage (88.9) of most pars or better.  Although this is his first player of the month honor, it should also be noted that Lewis placed in first at the College Prep Series tournament at Clemson as well as the Wilmington Island Junior Open in the month of July. Last but not least, the honor of the Bobby Grace Player of the Month in the Girls 11-14 Division goes to Harmanprit Kaur of Lawrenceville, Georgia.  In what may be one of the most impressive performances for her division throughout any tournament in 2012, Kaur shot a two day total of 138(-4).  Just like she did when she won the Chateau Elan Junior Shootout in March, Kaur also lead her division in every single statistical category when she won the Athens Junior Shootout.  Kaur birdied a total of 8 times, won the Par 3, 4, and 5 performance challenges, and also sank the most par shots (24).
