Athens Junior Classic
(July 5-6, 2017)
On Wednesday, July 5th, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Athens, Georgia to host the Athens Junior Classic at the Georgia Club. The golfers fought through a scorching weekend and competed at the highest level. Overall, the players had a wonderful weekend playing through the heat and battling through some tough weather conditions towards the end. There was a lot at stake in this tournament with the top 3 finishers in each age group receiving exemption into the 2017 HJGT National Championship on December 2-3. The top 10 finishers will receive points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. Boys 16-18

Jack Vajda of Canton, Georgia is the Boys 16-18 champion. Vajda posted a very impressive 70 on Wednesday and a 73 on Thursday to finish with a two-day total of 143. He beat out Michael Zachary of Alpharetta, Georgia for the win. Zachary who tied Vajda with a 73 on the second day, finished with a two-day total of 145. Bailey Means from Atlanta, Georgia tied with Spencer Fairfield of Tallahassee, Florida for third. Means posted a 74 on Saturday and a 72 on Sunday and Fairfield shot a consistent 73 and 73. The players had a great time competing against some of the best junior golfers in the country and showed great skill while doing so. Boys 14-15

Jacob Kephart was the champion of the Boys 14-15 division. Kephart posted a 71 on Wednesday and an 73 on Thursday for a 144 two-day total to claim the title. Lucas Hopkins of Thomson, Georgia and Maxwell Ford of Peachtree Corners, Georgia tied for second finishing with two day totals of 145. Sam Brummett of Newman, Georgia was the third place finisher after a two-day total of 149 (77-72). The players enjoyed the course and had fun competing in their division. Boys 11-13

Wyatt Seilkop from Suwanee, Georgia is the Boys 11-13 champion. After a 77 Wednesday, Seilkop closed the final round with a 79 to secure the victory with a two-day total of 156. Rylan Black of Greensboro, Georgia came in second with a total of 159 (80-79). Brennan Cozad of Alpharetta, Georgia finished in third place with a total of 162 (80-82). The boys showed maturity in dealing with the course’s many challenges. Girls 14-18

Kimberly Shen of Johns Creek, Georgia is the Girls 14-18 champion. Shen posted a 73 Wednesday and followed that with a 76 on Thursday for a two-day total of 149. Finishing in second was Kelly Strickland from Alpharetta, Georgia posted rounds of 75 and 74 to score a total of 149. The two ladies battled through a competitive four-hole playoff where Shen eventually out dueled Strickland for the victory. Thienna Huynh from Lilburn, Georgia finished in third place with a two-day total of 150 (74-76). The ladies enjoyed their experience and the intense competition all weekend. Girls 13U

Reagan Folk from Madison, Georgia is the girls 13 and under champion. Folk claimed the title after a 90 on Wednesday and a 88 Thursday for a two-day total of 178. Folk displayed tremendous fortitude while trekking through the difficult course layout. Thank you for coming out and competing with us this weekend Reagan.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
