Amelia Lewis Girls National Championship at Champions Gate Country Club at Harrison Bay in Champions Gate, Florida
(December 3-4 2016)
Sunshine State of National Champions
On Wednesday, November 30th, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Champions Gate, Florida, to host the Amelia Lewis Girls National Championship at Champions Gate Country Club. The weather was beautiful both days with temperatures reaching in the mid 70’s and low 80’s. Sunday was a bit windier, but that did not affect the performance of all the girls. The HJGT would like to thank Champions Gate Country club for allowing us to host our tournament at such a great venue. The grounds crew did an amazing job with getting the course ready, and the staff was very accommodating. A special thank you goes out to Amelia Lewis and Georgina Lewis for making it an amazing event for the girls all weekend. This weekend kicked off with a clinic for the girls participating in the National Championship, followed by a welcome reception in the afternoon. The LPGA needs more golfers like Amelia who have a big heart, and enjoy getting involved with junior golfers that have that drive to be like her. AJGA stars, Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings, and Golfweek were up for grabs this weekend as 92 players were battling from their respective age divisions for a chance to win the National Championship. Players congregated from all over the South, Illinois, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania, Canada, China, England, Germany, and Guatemala for a chance at an HJGT title. Girls 14-18 Division Jenny Kim of Heathrow, Florida won the Girls 14-18 division. Jenny headed into the final round in a four-way tie for first place. Jenny was not fazed by the competition or the windy conditions. She came into the tournament with the game plan of keeping the ball low which set her up for easy putts and eventually shot -6 which led both girls’ divisions. Her scores this weekend were 70-68 for a total score of 138 (6-under-par). Taking second place was Anne Yu of Champions Gate, Florida. She drove the ball very well, and putted up to her standards. Her weekend scores were 70, 71 (-3). Placing third was Jillian Bourdage of Tamarac, Florida. Jill shot very well and while there may have been holes she would have liked to have scored better on, she still shot an impressive 1-under-par this weekend. Jill’s scores this weekend were 71, 72 (-1).

Kokoro was in the lead by one stroke heading into the final round, but still had a good tournament finishing in second place. Her scores this weekend were 73-77 (+6). Taking third place was Sara Im of Duluth, Georgia. Sara struggled a bit during her first round shooting an opening round 80, but she made a few adjustments, and came back strong firing a final round 71 (1-under). Her weekend scores were 80-71 (+7).
