A Long Delay Leads To A Successful Day
(January 14-15, 2017)
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Hilton Head Island on January 14 -15, 2017, to host the Bluffton Junior Shootout at Old South Golf Links. The course on the first day of competition was full of sunshine and positive vibes from the junior golfers. That following day the fog delayed competition but once lifted the temperature rose to the mid 70’s. The winners in a three age divisions received automatic bid to the Tour Championship in December, as well as points towards end of the year honors and HJGT points for the HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup. Boys 16-18 Division

In the Boys 16 - 18 Division Jeremy Sisson from Skaneateles, New York walked away as the first place champion. Sisson's impressive rounds of 71 and 75 lead him to take the lead early on. He had a one stroke lead going into the final round and was able to hold on till throughout the competition. Sisson had 7 birdies and lead the field with an impressive scoring average of 73.0. Taking second this weekend was Jun- Hyeok Moon. Moon had a two day total of 148 with rounds of 72 and 76. He lead the field with the most birdies this week and averaging 2.8 on par threes. In third place from Aiken, South Carolina was Chad Carter. Carter had a two day total of 149 and rounds of 74 and 75. He had a total of 5 birdies and was third in scoring average. Boys 14-15 Division

Ty Hutson from Metter, Georgia came in first place. Hutson had impressive rounds of 77 and 73 to take home the win." I loved the course and the greens were great" said Huston. Hudson had a total of 5 birdies in the course of the two days. Coming in second place, was Drew Salyers from Howard Ohio. Salyers also had an impressive 5 birdies and had a 75.5 scoring average over the course of the two day competition. Coming in third place from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina was Jonathan Griz. Griz had rounds of 79 and 73 for a two day total of 152. He had an impressive three birdies in a row in the second round. Boys 11-13 Division

Yu-Jun-Jung took home first place after firing 72 and 74 for a two day total of 146. Jung said " I enjoyed the course and was happy with my performance". Jung had 7 birdies over the course of two rounds and had two of birdies in a row. Jacob Fripp from Rincon Georgia came in second place. Fripp had a two day total of 166 and had two rounds of 87 and 79. Fripp had two birdies and a scoring average of 83.0 for this tournament. Lastly coming in third place from St. Simons Island Georgia was Roy Boyd. Boyd had a two day total of 181 and rounds of 92 and 89. Boyd said " I really enjoyed the course and am excited for more tournaments to come". Girls 14-18 Division

Abbey Schimpf of Daniel Island, South Carolina took home first place. Schimpf fired a 70 after the first round and had the lead by three. On day two, she fired a 74 to capture the win. Schimpf had a total of 8 birdies and her scoring for the weekend average an even 72.0. She holed out from the fairway for an impressive eagle in the second round. Coming in second place was Hanna Kiefer from Kronberg, Germany. Kiefer fired a 77 and 78 for a two day total of 155. She had a total of 5 birdies and had a one stroke lead over third. Coming in third place was Yoon- Kyong Kim. Kim had a twoday total of 155 and rounds of 78 and 77 and totaled three birdies.
Girls 13U

Taking home the Girls Under 13 Division, in first place was Youna Cho. Cho had a two day total of 155 with rounds of 80-75. She loved the course and felt very confident going into this weekend. Coming in second place from Warren Ohio was Gianna Clemente. Clemente had a two day total of 175 and rounds of 85,90 to capture second place. And lastly Chae- Yoon Um, who had two birdies, was able to come in third place with 93,82 for a two day total of 175.

Sunday”: Mid 70’s, Foggy to begin then changed to sunny and clear, Wind 5-10mph
