54 Hole Challenge at Fleming Island- February 14-16, 2015
(February 16, 2015) The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour was at the Golf Club at Fleming Island this weekend for a three-day 54-hole shootout. The weather was nice all three days with the sun shining and temperatures in the mid 60’s Saturday and Sunday, with Monday reaching a high of 75. Boys 15-18 and Girls 11-14 were the only divisions in play, however the field was still very full with over 60 competitors. The winners of each division earned an exemption into the 2015 HJGT National Championship, while the top three of each division earned an exemption into the 2015 Mid Season Invitational at Chateau Elan.
Tom Broxup won the Boys 15-18 division with a total score of -1. Tsukasa Kimishima came in second with +8, while Julian Perico and Tiger Lee tied for third at +14. Perico started Monday five strokes behind Lee but finished with a +1 witch was good enough to tie for third. Kimishima ended Monday strong with a -2 but it was not enough to catch the leader. In his first round, Broxup only had one bogey with 15 pars and three birdies. On Sunday Broxup went through the back nine hitting eight pars and a birdie. On Monday he was up and down with three birdies and three bogies. Broxup ended the weekend with eight birdies to cruise into the first place by nine strokes.
Juli Camargo won the Girls 11-14 division. Amelia Williams and Sarah Scott took second and third respectively. Camargo and Williams finished Saturday tied at 82 with Scott close behind at 84. Camargo pulled ahead a little on Sunday then finished the weekend with a 75, the best round of the whole division. Williams had one birdie each day finishing the weekend with three total. Scott easily took third place with the next closest competitor falling 21 strokes behind her. On the first day Camargo had nine pars, eight bogies, and one double bogey. Sunday she finished with another 82 before hitting four birdies on Monday to win her division.
