Hu comes out on top during exciting round three finish Carroll records five birdies during final round

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour was in OrangePark, FL on February 15-17, 2014 for the 54 Hole Challenge (Younger Division) at Eagle Harbor. The mild weather conditions allowed the field to post low scores all weekend. Eagle Harbor had the pleasure of hosting the Boys and Girls 11-14 division for the event. Winners from both divisions received an invitation to the 2014 Tour Championship and Mid-Season Invitational. The winner of both divisions received one AJGA performance star. Both divisions were also ranked by the NJGS. Additionally, the top 15 finishers received points towards end of the year honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup.

Alex Hu of Lake Mary, FL remained consistent throughout the tournament posting rounds of 76 on Saturday, 76 on Sunday and 74 on Monday in the Boys 11-14 division. This dominance led him to the first place trophy with a weekend total of 226. Finishing one stroke behind Hu was Cody Carroll of Jacksonville, FL. Carroll fired an 80 on Saturday and after the second round, made some ground on Hu shooting a 74. This was a six shot improvement from the day before. Carroll finished the event with a one over, 73. Two strokes off the lead was, Saransh Saxena from Howey in the Hills, FL who finished in third place with a total score of 228. In round one, Saxena fired an 80 with one birdie. He improved every round of the tournament posting a 76 on Sunday and an even par, 72 to finish the weekend.

For the Girls 11-14 division, Amy Zhang of Lake Mary, FL. led the way throughout the event to finish in first place. On Saturday she fired an even par 72. Zhang recorded five birdies that day, while going low on the back nine posting a two under 34. She continued her lead on the rest of the field, carding a 74 on Sunday. Zhang scored a three over 75 on Monday to finish the tournament at 221. Mimi Chen from Longwood, FL finished in second place with a six over 78 in round one and round two. Chen scored low again on Monday with a very impressive four under par, 68. This was the low score for both divisions. Cindy Kou from Windermere, FL. improved 11 strokes from her round one score of 83 posting an even par 72 on Sunday. Kou secured third place with a 76 on Monday for a weekend total of 231. Weather: Day 1- Cold in the morning with gusting wind. Afternoon sun, high of 65.
