54 Hole Challenge at Eagle Harbor – February 14-16, 2015

Timor pulls away to clinch victory Theam finishes strong to win

(February 16, 2015) The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) returned to Orange Park, Florida February 14- February 16, 2015 for the 54 Hole Challenge at Eagle Harbor. Players battled through consistently windy conditions over the three day event. The top three finishers in each division received an invitation to the 2015 Mid-Season Invitational. The winners in each division received an invitation to the 2015 HJGT National Championship. Two of the three divisions were ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard. Additionally, the top ten finishers in each division received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams and the Hurricane Cup. Additionally winners of the Girls 15-18 Division (top three finishers) and Boys 13-14 Division earned AJGA PBE Stars.

EH girls 15-18

In the Girls 15-18 division, what began as a tight race between five different players, all within three strokes, narrowed to two players through the second round. Selin Timor of Lake Mary, FL managed to pull away and finished on top of the division with a 231 total had a streak of 17 bogey free holes stretching from the last half of the second round to the first half of the final round. Amelia Root of Jacksonville, FL was close behind finishing with a 233 total to secure second and Lauren Waidner of Fleming Island rounded out the podium with a 234 three day total. Amelia tied with Mami Yamamoto for most birdies on the weekend with five. Selin also finished with 37 pars on the weekend followed closely by Lauren and Mami at 32.

EH 13-14

The Boys 13-14 division was an even tighter race with seven players within three strokes of the leader through the second round. At the close of the third round Dragon Theam of Jacksonville, FL took home the top spot with a three day total of 231 and carded the most pars of the division at 38. Jayson Iten of Naples, FL and Tiaan Mattiace of Jacksonville, FL tied for second place on the weekend with 233. Tiaan showed power and precision throughout the weekend leading the division with seven birdies and a three hole birdie streak on the back nine in the second round. Jayson also showed precision and consistency with a 13 hole bogey free streak from the last half of the first round well into the first half of the second round. Arden Brake of Green Cove Springs, FL who finished T10 recorded the only eagle of the weekend. Strong play by all in the Boys 13-14 division made for another exciting finish here at Eagle Harbor.

EH boys 11-12

The Boys 11-12 division was yet another tight race between two players. Miles Patterson of Chicago, IL and Will Morlan of Alpharetta, GA came to the 54 Hole Challenge at Eagle Harbor determined to make their mark on the HJGT. Both Players were locked within a few strokes of each other through the first two rounds. In the end, Miles came away with the victory, finishing with a 257 total, which included 25 pars and a seven hole bogey free stretch. Will came close finishing with a 262 total, which included 16 pars and a three hole bogey free stretch. Both players came away with a birdie on the weekend.  We expect to see great things from these two in tournaments to come.
