Challenge accepted at Rio Pinar

  On Thursday, January 12, 2017, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Orlando, Florida to host the 54 Hole Challenge at Rio Pinar. The HJGT would like to first thank the staff at Rio Pinar Country Club for allowing us to host our tournament at their course. Five out of the HJGT’s six age divisions participated in this exciting tournament. The participants were competing for AJGA stars and for exemptions into the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational at Sea Island Plantation and the 2017 National Championship. The competitors knew they needed to make a big splash in order to take home a trophy in such a large playing field. They were up to the 54 hole challenge.   Boys 16-18 Division

Marco Trstenjak of Winnepag, MB was the Boys 16-18 Champion. Trstenjak was -2 during his final round and finished with a three-day total of 218 (73 - 75- 70). Nicholas Bessire of Orlando, FL, took second place with a total of 220 (72 -75 - 73). The third place trophy was awarded to Blake Wheeler of Fort Myers, FL. Wheeler finished with a total of 222  (74 -71- 77). Overall the Boys 16-18 Division players had a fun time competing in their large age division.         Boys 14-15 Division

 Gyeongmin Kim of Orlando, FL was the champion of the Boys 14-15 Division. He finished with a three-day total of 225 (80 -71- 74). Bruce Huang of Windermere, FL took home the second place trophy with a total of 227 (76 -76 - 75). Third place was awarded to Drew Lanier of Maitland, FL. Lanier finished with a total of 230 (82 - 72 - 76). Three-day tournaments are a lot of hard work, but all of these competitors left the course with a smile on their faces.        Boys 11-13 Division

Deven Patel of Johns Creek, GA was the champion of the Boys 11-13 division. Patel started off the tournament with an impressive 71 and never gave up the lead. He finished with a total of 219 (71-73- 75). Hyunhee Jang of Orlando, FL took home second place with a final total of 223 (76- 73-75). Third place was awarded to Harrison Harper of Tampa, FL. Harper had a final total of 234 (83 - 78 - 73). These Boys 11-13 Division showed a lot of maturity and discipline with their excellent play, overall they had a fun time navigating the course.       Girls 14-18 Division

Emma Zhao of Wintermere, FL had a spectacular weekend. Zhao finished -1 through three days and earned the champion’s trophy in the Girls 14-18 Division. Zhao finished with a total of 215 (76 - 67 - 72). Tianyi Zhuang took home the second place trophy with a three-day total of 221 (73 - 74 - 74). Rounding out the division in third place was Alysza Moya of Winter Garden, FL. Moya had a final total of 228 (77 - 75 - 76). These ladies had fun playing the course and competing against all the other excellent players in their division.     Girls U13

Annie Zhang of Winter Garden, FL was the champion of the Girls Under 13 Division. Zhang had a three-day total of 247 (84 - 81- 82). Second place was awarded to Sophie Anand of Albany, The Bahamas. Anand finished with a total of 251 (82 - 87 - 84). The third place trophy went to Hannah Tuinman of Nassau, NP. Tuinman finished with a total of 287 (103 - 95 - 89). These girls got to play together each day of the tournament and had a lot of fun navigating the course.         Weather January 14-16, 2017: Round 1: Low 62, High 75.
