Swinging To Victory

  On Thursday, July 7, 2016 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Manchester, TN to host the Willowbrook Junior Shootout at the beautiful Willowbrook Golf Course. Sunshine was abundant on both Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the mid 80s to low 90s. The HJGT would like to thank The Willowbrook staff for allowing us to host our Willowbrook Junior Shootout out at a great venue. The boys 14-18 champion, girls 14-18, as well as boys 11-13 and under 13 girls division’s top performers received Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking points. The top three winners in each age division were awarded an exemption into the 2016 Tour Championship December 3-4, 2016. The top ten finishers also received points towards year-end honors, which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.  

Boys 16-18 Division

Round one started out as a close race between Tanner Harris, of Athens, TN, Austin Russell, of Old Hickory, TN, and Tyler Huff, of Bell Buckle, TN. Harris was leading by 3 stroke after round 1, while Russell and Huff were not far behind. At the end of the second round Tanner Harris came into the club house with a great round of one under par 71, which put him at the top of the leader board at the end of the tournament. As all of the boys finished their rounds Harris’s score of 71 would hold up to be tied for the best round of the day to give him the victory over Russell and Huff by 6 strokes.    

Boys 14-15 Division

Dalton Sutton, of Ooltewah, TN, Hayden Blair, of Tullahoma, TN, and Blake McIntire, of Greenwood, IN all started off great with scores of 78, 79, and 79 respectively. With a one stroke lead for Sutton, they battled the course for the final round of the tournament. Overall, all top three finishers finished strong on day 2. Coming in third place, Blair finished with a score of 76 for the day giving him a total score of 155 for the tournament. Sutton finished with a total score of 76 on the second day, coming in at a total score of 154 which was good enough for second place. Coming in with a second round 73, Morgan Robinson, of Tennessee Ridge, TN, finished first place making his overall total 153.    

Boys 11-13 Division

In the Boys 11-13 division, the competition was still very good between these younger boys. The winner, Evan Reed, of Shelbyville, TN shot a great score of -1 71 in the first round and was able to shoot another solid round of 75 for a total of 146. Coming just seven strokes shy of Reed, Charles Warren, of Huntsville, AL. He had a good Saturday round of 78 and ended up shooting three strokes better in the second round for a total of 153 for the tournament. Both Reed and Warren had a good round this weekend at the Willowbrook Junior Shootout at Willowbrook and we look forward to seeing them play again with us soon.    

Girls 14-18 Division

The girls 14-18 was another great competition between the top three contestants. Victoria England, of Oakland, TN had a solid first round finishing at 73, which was good enough for the lowest score in her age division in the first round. She followed up an excellent first round with another great score of 68 in the final round to finish at a total of 141 for the tournament. That score was great enough to secure a 15 stroke victory. Jacque Crossland, of Manchester, TN and Jessie Eaton, of Murfreesboro, TN both had awesome tournaments, finishing with total scores of 156 and 158 respectively. This was an excellent group of girls to watch as they played their hearts out.    

Boys U10

With only two boys in the U10 division, Eli Brown, of Murfreesboro, TN and Laird Williams, of Franklin, TN both played very well. Eli Brown was the winner of the boys U10 division with scores of 74 and 71 for a two-day total of 145. In second place was Laird Williams with scores of 87 and 78 for a two-day total of 165. Thank you to these two young boys and we would like to wish them luck on their next tournaments.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
