The Road to Glory at The Virtues Golf Club

On Monday, June 27 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to the amazing Nashport, Ohio to host the Ohio Summer Classic at the breathtaking The Virtues Golf Club. Sunshine was abundant on Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the 70’s. The HJGT would like to thank The Virtues Golf Club for allowing us to host our tournament at this magnificent facility. The top performers and champions of the boys and girls divisions received valuable point for Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking. The Winners in each division will receive an exemption into the 2016 Tour Championship December 3-4, 2016 and the top 10 finishers receive points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. On Wednesday morning the players were ready to take on the challenge of The Virtues.  

Boys 16-18

Sebastien Bonte from Arlington, Virginia was the champion of the boys 16-18 division. Bonte started the day three shots off the lead behind Jimmy Clark, who had the first round lead. Bonte started the final round with a bogey, but managed to finish the front nine with a one under thirty-five that include four birdies and two pars. Jimmy Clark from North Olmsted, Ohio finished in second place with a two-day total of 153. Jake Hoheisel finished in third place with a two-day total of 155. The longest bogey free streak goes to Jimmy Clark with 7 holes. It was a fun weekend for the player who enjoyed a competitive friendly competition in this challenging course.      

Boys 14-15

For the boys 14-15 division, the player who took home the first place trophy was Drew Salyers from Howard, Ohio. Salyers started the final round with a comfortable lead and despite a final round of 78, he managed to take home the victory. Costa Coconis from Somerset, Ohio took home the second place trophy after shooting a total of 171 for the tournament. Garret Smith from Mount Sterling, Kentucky took home the third place trophy with a total score of 172 for the tournament. Drew Salyers led the birdie category with 6 for the tournament. Salyers also lead the total pars category with a total of 18 pars. The players had an amazing experience competing in a very competitive field.      

Girls 14-18

Gabrielle Correira from New Albany, Ohio was the champion for the girls 14-18 division. Correira started the day two shots off the lead, but managed to shoot a final round of 79 to win by one stroke. Jenna Vivo from Youngstown, Ohio finished in second place with a two-day total of 163. Hannah Hyme from Lancaster, Ohio finished in third place with a two-day total of 186. Correira and Hyme tied for the lead in the birdie category with 2. Correira and vivo tied for the lead in the bogey free streak category with 4 holes. The girls had a lot of fun this weekend and enjoyed being surrounded by a lot of great players who made this tournament a competitive one.

Round 1: Low 50, High 78. Sunny Skies, wind 10-15 mph.

Round 2: Low 55, High 77. Sunny Skies, wind 5-10 mph

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
