The Challenge at Tam O’Shanter
On Thursday, June 23 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Canton, Ohio to host the Canton Jr Classic at the beautiful Tam O’Shanter Golf Course. Sunshine was abundant on Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the 90’s. The HJGT would like to thank Tam O’Shanter Golf Course for allowing us to host our tournament at this magnificent facility. The top performers and champions of the boys and girls divisions received valuable point for Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking. The winners in each division will receive an exemption into the 2016 Tour Championship December 3-4, 2016 and the top 10 finishers receive points towards year-end honors, which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup. With all the rankings on the line, the golfers were ready to give it their all.
Drake Tobias from Macedonia, Ohio was the champion of the boys 16-18 division. Berger started the day one shot off the lead. Tobias started the final round with a double bogey, but managed to finish the front nine with a one under thirty-five that include one birdie and one eagle. Tejas Sinha from Pickerington, Ohio finished in three-way tie for second place with Ben Gleichauf from North Olmsted, Ohio and Jack Funderburg from Westerville, Ohio. The longest bogey free streak goes to Tejas Sinha with 12 holes. It was a fun weekend for the player who enjoyed a competitive friendly competition.
For the boys 14-15 division, the player who took home the first place trophy was Gunnar McCollins from Massillon, Ohio. McCollins started the last round tied for the lead and managed to shoot a final round of 70 to win by five strokes. Conner Stevens from Brookfield, Ohio took home the second place trophy after shooting a total of 151 for the tournament. Colton Levey from Twinsburg, Ohio took home the third place trophy with a total score of 155 for the tournament. Tre Bartony, Colton Levey and Gunnar McCollins tied in the birdie category with 4 for the tournament. Gunnar McCollins had a total of 22 pars. The players had an amazing experience competing in a very competitive field.
Andrew Poon from Venetia, Pennsylvania took home the first place trophy for the boys 11-13 division. Poon started the round with a comfortable lead and managed to keep it throughout the last round to take home the victory. Ian Shemo from Westlake, Ohio took home second place shooting a two-day total of 197. Poon was the leader in birdies for the division with 2. Poon also led in the bogey free streak category with 12 holes. Each and every player enjoyed the experience of playing competitive golf.
Hannah Lemons from Canton, Ohio was the champion for the girls 14-18 division. Lemons had a seven stoke lead at the beginning of the last round and manage to shoot a two over 72 on the last day to take home the victory. Amanda Baker from Brooklyn, Ohio finished tied for second place with Jessica Hahn from Canton, Ohio with a two-day total of 152. Lemons had the most birdies in the division with 8. Lemons also had the highest Bogey free streak for the division with a total of 8 holes. The girls had a lot of fun this weekend and enjoyed being surrounded by a lot of great players who made this tournament a competitive one.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
