Philadelphia Junior Challenge

  On Thursday June 16, 2016 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Stevens, PA, to host the Philadelphia Junior Challenge at the beautiful Foxchase Golf Course. Sunshine was abundant on both Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s both days. The HJGT would like to thank The Foxchase Golf Course staff for allowing us to host our Junior Challenge out at a great venue. Each division’s top performers received Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking points. The winners in each division will receive an exemption into the 2016 Tour Championship on Dec. 3-4, 2016. The top ten finishers also received points towards year-end honors, which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.  

Boys 16-18 Division

At the end of round one Connor Boham, of Collegeville, PA had a two shot lead over Trey Kuntz, of Lancaster, PA and Andrew Forjan, of York, PA. At the end of round two, Boham came in with a solid round of even (72) to give him a total score of 145 for the tournament and sealing up the victory over Kuntz and Forjan, who both had a total score of 150 for the tournament.        

Girls 14-18 Division

The girls 14-18 division was another great competition between the top three contestants. Caprian Kan, of Boothwyn, PA had a great first round finishing at two over (74), which put her in first place after the first round in her age division. She followed up a good first round with another stellar sccore of 80 in the final round to finish with a total of 154. She secured a 7 stroke Victory over Gabriella Kim, of Wayne, PA who had a very solid tournament total of 161, followed closely by Georgia Naples, of Westchester, PA. Naples had a tournament total of 165. This was an excellent group of girls to watch and they played well all weekend.      

Boys 14-15 Division

Even though there were only two competitors in the boys 14-15 division, the competition was still great. AJ Aivazoglou, of Glenn Mills, PA, and Austin Lauver, of Lancaster, PA fought it out both days. Aivazoglou came out on top at the end of the tournament. Aivazoglou shot a 73 and 79. This was a great two day total of 152. Lauver shot 95 and 88, which he came in with a total of 183.        

Boys 11-13 Division

In the boys 11-13 division there were only four competitors, but after the first round it came down to just two Aryan Vuradi, of Brambleton, VA, and Matt Messenger, of Moorestown, NJ. Both played great throughout the tournament. In the first round Messenger (79) and Vuradi (82) were close after 18 holes before the other two competitors WD. After battling it out on the second day, Vuradi (77) bested Messenger (81) by just one stroke to claim the boys 11-13 division champion. Vuradi had a total two day score of 159 and Messenger with a two day score of 160.

Round 2: Low 85, High 95. Mostly Sunny, Wind 5-10 mph

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
