Boys 16-18 Division
Round one started out as a close race between Alex Ross, of Atlanta, GA and Wesley Heston, of Atlanta, GA with Heston leading by 2 strokes after shooting a spectacular 68. But it was Alex Ross who fired back with a 68 of his own in Round 2 scoring 2 eagles on the back 9. He followed that up with another solid round of 70 in Round 3 to secure the victory. Overall, this was a great division to watch with talent from top to bottom.
Boys 14-15 Division
Brandon Cho, of Suwanee, Georgia and Nicholas Gibson, of Duluth, Georgia both finished off a great round 1 coming in at a 74 on a very challenging course. With a very stacked leaderboard Brandon stood out in Round 2 firing an impressive even par 72. But it was Nicholas who went low in the Final Round shooting 71, which was good enough to edge out Brandon by one stroke.
Boys 11-13 Division
Some of the best rounds during the Canongate Series #3 happened in the Boys 11-13 division. Bruce Murphy, of John’s Creek, GA, shot an extraordinarily low 67 in round 1 while Jake Peacock, of Alpharetta, GA shot an amazing 68. These two boys battled it out for the next two rounds playing some very exciting rounds of golf. But it was Jake’s 2 round score of 72 that was the difference in this age division. Jake finished with a three round total of 214, while Bruce finished with a 218.
Girls 14-18 Division
The girls 14-18 division was another great competition between the top three contestants. Amy Ng, of Alpharetta, GA had a solid first round finishing at 75, which was good enough for the lowest score in her age division in the first round. She followed up an excellent first round with a solid 79 in the second round and then improved on both rounds shooting a 74 in Round 3 for a three day total of 228. Lolli Yu, of Duluth, GA and Carol Pyon, of Macon, GA did not go down without a fight, scoring 232 and 236 respectively. This was an excellent group of girls to watch and they played well all weekend.
Things were tight after round 1 of this age division with the top 3 girls all within one stroke of each other. But it was Sara Im, of Duluth, GA who went low in Round 3 with a 78 that allowed her to edge out the victory over her competitors. Thienna Huynh, of Lilburn, GA fell just short of first place finishing just one stroke behind the leader. Everyone in this division played well and they were a joy to watch all weekend.
Rogelio Gerena, of Peachtree City, GA played a solid three rounds of golf. Faced with adversity, he was able to complete each round never showing any signs of weakness. He showed great improvement from Round 1 to Round 3 which led him to a three round total of 300.
