On May 28th, 29th, and 30th 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to the college town of West Lafayette, Indiana to host the College Prep Series at the Purdue University course. The course was in great shape, and proved to be very challenging as a college course. All three days turned out warm and sunny, while the first two days were windy. The weekend did not disappoint in just the weather, but did not disappoint as the top ten finishers received points towards end years honors. The top winner in all six age divisions were rewarded a bid to the National Championship on December 3rd and 4th, 2016. This includes state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.
Boys 16-18 Division
In the boys 16-18 division, Miguel Montelongo, from Peoria, IL took home the first place trophy and was the overall champion of the tournament. Montelongo finished the weekend off with a stunning 224 three-day total. Montelongo started off with a nice 79 for Saturday and came in Sunday with a quality -4 score of 69, to put him in first after two rounds. Montelongo backed his play up and had an amazing score of 76 with 12 birdies overall. Drew Alexander from McCordsville, IN placed second with quite the fight, falling to Montelongo by only one stroke. Alexander brought in scores of 80, 73, and 72 to put him at a 225 with 7 birdies total. Jake Propeck of Leawood, KS came in third with a 231. Propeck brought in nice scorecards each day with scores of 79, 78, and 74. Overall the boys 16-18 age division was very competitive this weekend, and all of our top finishers played impressive golf.
Boys 14-15 Division
In the boys 14-15 age division, Dominic Scaletta from Inverness, IL brought in the lowest score during the three days to receive the first place trophy. He scored an, 78, 76, and 75 for a total of 229 and included 5 birdies. Nicholas Hofman of Lafayette, IN took home the second place trophy. The first two days Hofman brought in scores of 88 and 81. He knew he had to get his score down, which he did just that with by taking 13 strokes of his first day scored. That hard work put him in second place with a score of 224. Chase Claymier of Evansville, IN shot a three-day total of 247 to earn the third place trophy. Claymeir brought in scores of 82, 82, and 83 in the tournament. Overall this division was very competitive this weekend, and all of our top finishers played impressive golf.
Boys 11-13 Division
In the boys 11-13 age division, Luke Tedford of Lake Forest, IL came out of the tournament in first place. Tedford started the tournament on Saturday with a score of 84. He brought in lower scores of 77 and 76 with four birdies to boost him to first. Only behind by two strokes, Andrew White from Westfield, IN battled like there was no tomorrow to receive the second place trophy. White shot scores of 79, 81, and 79. Shaun Cook from Norcross, GA took home the third place trophy by edging out fierce competitors and ended with a total score of 246. Cook brought in scores of 87, 83, and 76. Overall, this age division showed they weren´t afraid to compete, will to improve, and performed well.
In the boys 10 and under age division, Peyton Blackard of Fort Branch, IN came out swinging. He brought in scores of 78, 78, and 83 for a total of 239 and the first place trophy. Landon Gilmore of Bloomfield, IN came in second with a score of 278. He had scores of 96, 91, and 91. The third place trophy went to Henry Reiland from Chicago, IL. Reiland had a total score of 283 and brought in scores of 95, 95, and 93. These boys proved they could hang in there, even on a college course.
Girls 14-18 Division
In the girls 14-18 division, all of the top three scores were each within a stroke of each other and Lauren Guiao of Newburgh, IN pulled out the win. Talk about close. Guiao brought in scores of 87, 79, and 75 for a total of 241 She had 7 birdies for the tournament and valued them as they propelled her to first. Katelyn Le from Evansville, IN came in second with a score of 242. All day She was knocking on the doors of snagging first from Lauren. She brought in rounds of 86, 76 with 3 birdies, and 80. Cailyn Henderson from Carmel, IN received the third place trophy with a score of 243. She had an 84, 82, and 77 with a birdie each day. Overall, these competitors played their hearts out and never gave their opponent an inch.
Girls 13U Division
Even though there was not enough players for a full age group of 13U, Lyvia Li battled it out with the 14-18 age division and received the 13U first place trophy. Li had a total score of 288. She brought in rounds of 100, 95, and 93. Each of our top finishers played some extraordinary golf this weekend in one of the most competitive fields of the year, each of these girls showed that they have a very bright future ahead of them in golf.

About the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18, and Girls 11-13.
