2014 All-HJGT Teams and Players of the Year

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) is excited to announce the All-HJGT Teams and Players of the Year for the 2014 season. This season turned out to be a record breaking year for our tour with over 8,000 golfers playing with us over a span of 145 two-day tournaments. The HJGT gave it’s players the opportunity to play at prestigious venues all year long including the Sea Island Resort, Bethpage State Park, and 16 Division I University Golf Clubs including Purdue University, Clemson University, and the University of Louisville to name a few. The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour is happy to announce the 2014 Players of the Year: Garrett Whitfield of Johnson City, TN Layne-Marie Carter of Lyons, GA Cody Carroll of Jacksonville, FL Cindy Kou of Windermere, FL   The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour is happy to announce to 2014 All-HJGT Teams:

    The Boys 15-18 2014 Player of the Year Garrett Whitfield took home two title’s this year at the Mid-Season Boys Invitational presented by Game Golf and the Hurricane Tour Shop Series Invitational. He also gathered two more top five finishes at the Hurricane Tour Shop Series at Gettysvue and the Major Championship at Larkin. His best round of the year was a 5-under par 66 during the 2nd round of the Mid-Season Boys Invitational presented by Game Golf. Garrett was on fire with 7 birdies posted throughout the round. Mason Lenhart dominated the states of Kentucky and Ohio all year long with 3 victories at the Major Championship at Yankee Trace, Hurricane Tour Shop Series at Walden Ponds, and the College Prep Series at Louisville. South African Bryce Burke rounds out the Boys 15-18 All-HJGT team by participating in 10 events throughout the year and winning the Major Championship at Larkin in October for his first HJGT victory of the year shooting rounds of 73-73. The Girls 15-18 2014 Player of the Year Layne-Marie Carter played on tour 13 times this season including an impressive eight top five finishes. Layne-Marie’s best finishes were 2nd place finishes at the Carolina Junior Challenge presented by Frogg Toggs and also at the College Prep Series at Furman. Layne-Marie’s best round of the year occurred early in the year at the Jekyll Island Junior Open presented by GolfDotz where she carded a 1-over par 73. Also on the girls 15-18 All-HJGT Team is Kayla Smith from Middleburg, FL. Kayla played on tour this year an amazing 18 times and earned herself invites to the Hurricane Cup and Tour Championship. Kayla also walked away with a 1st place finish at the Bluffton Jr. Open. Rounding out the Girls 15-18 All-HJGT team is Anita Uwadia. Anita won on tour this year an impressive five times. Anita is known for being one of the longest hitters on tour in her age division and is a fine student at the Junior Players Golf Academy in Hilton Head Island, SC. The Boys 11-14 2014 Player of the Year Cody Carroll is a winning machine with seven victories out of the 11 tournaments he played in this year. He grabbed two Major Championship titles at Cattails and Lake Jovita while also taking the crown at the Mid-Season Boys Invitational. Cody shot 8-under par for a total of 138 which included an incredible 2nd round 6-under par 67. Luka Karaulic also receives All-HJGT Team honors with eight victories on tour this year. Luka’s best round of the year was at the 1st round of the 54 Hole Challenge at Sevierville where he carded a 4-under 66 which included an eagle. Ryder Sutcliffe rounds out the Boys 11-14 All-HJGT Team. Ryder’s best tournament by far was his 1st place finish at the Florida Fall Challenge where his two day total was a 6-under par 138. Cody and Ryder will be participating in the Hurricane Cup this month and should make for a strong Florida Team looking to retain the cup. The Girls 11-14 2014 Player of the Year Cindy Kou won on tour this year four times including taking the trophy at the HJGT Match Play Championship. Cindy’s best round of the year was at the College Prep Series at UF where she posted an even par 70. At only 11 years old, Cindy looks to dominate the tour for years to come. Also receiving All-HJGT team honors is Amelia Root. Amelia started and finished her season on a high note with victories at the Amelia National Junior Shootout in January and the Canongate Series #8 in September. The final recipient of All-HJGT Team honors is Sophia Burnett. Sophia closed out her season with victories in two of her final three tournaments. Sophia posted her best round of the year at the final round of the Charleston Junior Shootout presented by GolfDotz with a 5-over par 77. The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour would like to congratulate all the player’s receiving All-HJGT Team honors for 2014 and all of our participants playing throughout the year. It has been a fantastic year and should set the tour up for another successful year in 2015. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of four age divisions: Boys 15-18, Boys 11-14, Girls 11-14 and Girls 15-18. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Massachusetts, and Illinois.
