Tournament Operations and Marketing Internship

 

 

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour offers a well rounded internship for ambitious college students looking at developing a wide variety of business skills. Interns will be actively involved with all aspects of the business from sales and marketing to tournament operations under the supervision of HJGT staff members. The internship will require travel approximately 2-3 weekends per month. No other internship will better prepare you for a career in the business world. Internship Dates:

Spring 2010                 January 4, 2010- May 17, 2010

Summer 2010              May 4, 2010- August 11, 2010

Fall 2010                     August 10, 2010- December 10, 2010

 

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Tournament Set Up

Starting and Scoring of Players

On Course rules officiating (rules of golf knowledge preferred but not required)

Scoreboard Set up

Marking of golf course

Pairings

Press Releases

Web site Updates

Sales and Marketing

Sponsorship Strategies

Contract Negotiation

Product Purchasing

Human Resources

Tournament Preparation

 

Qualifications:

Golf Knowledge

Freshman year or higher in accredited university or college

Willingness to work 45 hours per week

Able to lift minimum 15 pounds

Valid driver’s license

Self motivated and hard working

Passion for the game of golf

Basic computer skills (Microsoft office)

 

 

Monthly Stipend and Housing:

HJGT interns will receive a monthly stipend plus all travel expenses paid for by the HJGT. The following items will be provided by the HJGT:

 

-Hotel Accommodations

-All meals when on site and traveling to and from tournaments

-Uniforms

-Laundry

 

HJGT Interns will also be provided with 100% paid housing in Jacksonville, Florida. All interns will live in a fully furnished condo in the vibrant part of Jacksonville. The community is gated and has 24 hour on-site security guards. The following will be provided during the duration of the program:

 

-Bedding

-Furniture

-Washer and Dryer

-Appliances (Dish washer, stove, microwave)

-Work Out facilities

-Indoor Basketball court

-2 swimming pools

 

Staff Uniforms:

Back 9 USA is the official golf shirt provider of the HJGT. Interns will be given 2-3 staff shirts upon arrival which will be wore during tournament rounds. Interns will wear their own golf clothing on set-up days and travel days. Interns will be expected to provide their own shorts, pants, and belts. Interns must comply with the HJGT’s dress and appearance policy.

 

College Credit:

Students will be able to use the HJGT internship for college credit. The amount of credits will be decided by your institution.

 

Career Enrichment:

There are countless benefits to participating in the HJGT internship. Interns will meet and interact with many people and get to know the future stars of the PGA and LPGA tours. Interns will be around influential and successful sponsors, parents, and spectators. Interns will also work closely with golf professionals, directors of golf and course superintendents. In addition to the contacts made, the internship also serves as an opportunity to obtain full time employment with the HJGT or through its network.
